Art has taken me many places. This weekend exemplified that.. I was part of an exhibition curated by @artbaefoundation and @noma.bid at @sandlotuptown Over 11 years ago @kayemjay6 @carymichael_ sat at a table inside of @chacc_dc as I was planning my first pray 4 ye exhibition. We brought our vibrant energies to the room and made magic.. years later when we link up its like nothing changed except we got better.. this weekend we lived a movie Community is so important and im blessed to be around people who stay true to their vision. We rise together. It takes a special one to bring so many greats in the room and then throughout the perceived chaos we got to not only meet @thuggerthugger1 we got to go to the show. Mann.. id say pinch me but I KNOW WE UP!!!

5 DAYS AWAY. 🎨🏛️ Five days until Blueprints & Brushstrokes II returns to Sandlot Uptown. Last year, more than 200 people came together for an evening that pushed architecture beyond the traditional professional setting and into conversation with art, culture, music, and community. This year, we’re building on that energy with 12 professional architecture projects + 4 student projects, each paired with 24 unique artists interpreting the work through painting, sculpture, mixed media, photography, sound, storytelling, and interactive installations. But Blueprints & Brushstrokes is also about creating opportunities for the people shaping the future of our profession. This is a fundraiser! Proceeds support DCNOMA’s ARE Scholarship Fund, helping emerging Black architects offset the costs of the Architecture Registration Exam and continue their journey toward licensure. So your ticket isn’t just admission to a night of art, music, food, cocktails, and networking. You’re helping make the path to becoming a licensed architect a little more accessible. 🎨 ARTIST SPOTLIGHT | JONA MONÉT + DR. ASHLEY BROWN What if the places we inhabit could hold the stories of the people who came before us? Our next Artist Spotlight features Jona Monét and Dr. Ashley Brown, two artists whose practices explore the powerful relationship between identity, memory, culture, and place. Jona Monét is a multidisciplinary artist, graphic designer, and creative strategist whose work draws from Geechee-Gullah heritage, Indigenous traditions, the American South, and Washington, D.C. Through painting and mixed media, her work explores how landscapes, neighborhoods, and architecture become vessels for cultural identity and collective memory. Her public art practice and collaborations with museums, nonprofits, festivals, and community partners create opportunities to celebrate heritage while encouraging dialogue and connection. @jonamonet Dr. Ashley Brown is a mixed media artist and educator whose work explores cultural identity, music, social movements, memory, and place. Through painting, printmaking, portraiture, and community-based projects, she examines how environments shape who we are and how communities preserve their stories. As an educator, she also uses art as a tool for empowerment and social change, creating spaces for connection, reflection, and belonging. @picassabrown Together, their practices remind us that our built environments are more than physical spaces. They can become archives of memory, expressions of identity, and places where culture is preserved, celebrated, and carried forward.
