About last night…. And what a night! We were invited to the press preview of the incredible play Cold War at the @almeida_theatre. It really is such a moving and affecting production, especially for those of us with first hand or generational experience of the Cold War. We the Artistic Directors and Instructors, Pani Basia and Laura were brought in by the wonderfully talented choreographer Ellen Kane to lead a workshop of Polish Folk Dancing to the cast, as well as to consult on the choreography and performative details. It was such an honour to be involved in the process of such an important piece of work. And it was so much fun to work with such an incredible cast! (many of which had never had any experience of Polish song and dance before this show). They really did do us all proud!!! Their dancing brought so much energy and life to the stage. The squeals and hejs they had so much fun learning brought the choreography to life and gave the authentic feel to the production. Their singing had wonderful Biały Głos technique and phenomenal pronunciation of an impossible foreign language! As well as beautiful harmonies and emotion. Thank you to everyone at Cold War, especially Ellen and James for inviting us. We can’t wait to come back in the New Year and watch it all over again with many of ORLETA’S own dancers! We know they are going to love it as much as we did.
