Planning a wedding while starting a business while working a full time leadership position in a non profit….WHO DOES THAT?!
Not for the faint of heart! But every detail was a dream and it all came to fruition. The colors, the venue, the food, the dress, the tiny details that make up a day that brought so much joy, was so much work but so worth it! And shout out to the lady on Facebook market place where I scooped up table numbers and holders to go along with everything!! Noting all those table cloths candles, holders, the menus, the fans doubling as programs, the maracas and tambourines, etc. etc. curated by yours truly! It’s in the details yall!
And shout out to @hans__palacios who was the best dance partner and choreographer as we worked on making a dance for our first dance nights after we closed the bookshop cafe and washed dishes, cleaned toilets, swept and mopped. We’d clear all the tables and chairs and practice our dance. Such fun date nights! 😂❤️

Okay now for the big day pics!! Didn’t get to these because we took a day to celebrate out of the city and these phones was put away yall for a beach date!!

What an incredible day! What we wanted was a place and a day where all our friends and family could get away and just linger in a space of joy and celebration and love. And that’s EXACTLY what we got! I love you @hans__palacios thank you for being on this wild journey with me. To many. Many more years to come!!

Wrapping up the Day Before as we throwback to THE BIG DAY which was one year ago today! Love looking back at the gorgeous shots. Weddings are stressful, let alone planning and executing one while starting a brick & mortar biz in NYC! But wow! What a weekend! To have friends and family gathered for this big celebration was absolutely EVERYTHING. ❤️

There’s a story behind every dish at Mary’s Table. ❤️🍲

Next Sunday, join us for an intimate evening of food, storytelling, memory, laughter, and community as Mary shares the meals that helped shape her life — and, in many ways, helped shape The Little Bookshop.

Each guest will enjoy a curated tasting menu of dishes Mary has cooked throughout the years while hearing the personal stories behind them. From the now-famous Butter Bean Stew inspired by a mommy-daughter lunch date with Ashley, to the tomato basil soup and grilled cheese combo that unexpectedly became a shop staple while Mary and Hans were trying to figure out what THEY should eat for lunch, every course carries history, humor, family, and love.

You’ll travel through summers in Marion, North Carolina, stories of grandparents, porches, foraging with Uncle Edgar, holiday traditions, and the meals that stay with us long after the plates are cleared. Alongside the dinner, we’ll share family photos and videos — including images of Mary’s great-grandmother — bringing each story even more to life.

The evening will build toward a full dinner featuring a meat entrée and two of Mary’s favorite holiday sides. And yes… there will absolutely be a Southern sweet delight. 🍰✨

This is not just dinner.
It’s oral history.
It’s storytelling around the table.
It’s family recipes, community memory, and the kind of evening that feels like home.

We can’t believe it’s almost been a year since The Little Bookshop opened!! The time has flown by!

This year would not have been possible without every person who has come in and grabbed a book or soup or a matcha or glass of rosé. It wouldn’t be possible without all the encouragement and support which has kept us going on the tough days.
Because being a small business is not easy!! We love each and every one of you and can’t wait to celebrate THIS COMMUNITY MILESTONE. Because WE DID THAT!

We’re in awe of the love and support from the community, and although we can’t always say yes to videos, events, or other creative ventures, it’s amazing to see the next generation exploring and building their dreams.

Our story has three different pathways and sets of dreams that came together to build The Little Bookshop, and you see them in every book, dish, drink, and event we host.
