Jon Zukauskas High School Nationals Meet Recap: 1st Place 🥇 NATIONAL CHAMPION 8/9

Squat: 220kg/485lb, (3/3, +7.5 PR)
Bench: 130kg/287lb, (3/3, +5kg PR)
Deadlift: 267.5kg/590lb, (2/3, PR MATCH)

Total: 617.5kg/1361lb, +12.5kg PR

Really one of the weirdest preps going into nationals. Jon did something really silly and went sledding before one of our local meets in December and snapped his fibula the night before the meet, not allowing us to squat, deadlift, or even bench with leg drive for a large period of time. To be honest, we didn’t think we would recover in time for this meet, let alone win or PR our total. Initially we were expecting to have to withdraw from the meet, but Jon locked in with whatever training we were able to do and PR’d his squat (despite only starting to do singles 6-7 ish weeks ago) and matched his deadlift PR, winning the 120kg weight class at high school nationals! After securing first place, we decided to do a yolo pull for the 600lb deadlift, unfortunately just wasn’t there on the day, regardless still very proud of this guy and can’t wait to see what we do in the collegiate scene!

Last high school meet and second national title, officially in the books. I'm grateful for everyone who has supported me up to this point. I am also blessed beyond words to have this experience along everything high school powerlifting has given me. Omaha was such a lively city, and I had a blast exploring it, and at this meet. Good s
job to all the Waukesha South Athletes for showing out and getting us the team award for Mens Raw Varsity.

Special thanks to @coach_salb and @aspirestrengthsystems for helping handle me on meet day. @lemieuxtrainingsystems for his Illustrious programming and for missing part of a wedding to handle my squat. @totalflexgym for a clean training facility with all my powerlifting necessities. @jeanniezcpa9695 and @jon.zukauskas for letting me come along with them and stay in their hotel.

With the end of an era comes a new one. I will take the next year to prepare for the collegiate level and juniors.

This weekend two Team Aspire Lifters competed at the WHSPA Waterford Regional. Both lifters PR’d their total and placed on the podium in a competition with over 300 lifters!

Meet Highlights:

Nik De Souza: 470lbs deadlift making it move smooth for an easy 3rd attempt, placing him first in the 90kg weight class and winning BEST MALE LIFTER in the meet.

Hunter Paulson: 205lbs bench press, solid 2nd attempt placing him 2nd in the 67.5kg weight class.

Huge thank you to @bradyreusser_throws @hayley.kgs @jonz.pl @alenz.07pl for coming to help work the warm up room for our team today, and @waukeshastrongpowerlifting for giving us the opportunity to work with some of their athletes!
