After an endless climb in heavy rain, the doors of Fort de l’Olive felt like salvation. Cold hands, soaked layers, numb faces, and then suddenly: refuge.

Inside the abandoned fort waited everything a mountain day could ask for: hot coffee, a fire, blankets, crêpes with Nutella and a splash of génépi. Simple things that tasted like victory.

The final checkpoint was reached. The exhaustion was written across every face.

Twenty moments from the @transpyrenees 2025.
This year marked the 5th edition of the race; a special one, with a new gravel spirit that added even more character to the route.
For me, it was my fourth year photographing the event, and as always, it was one of the most intense but rewarding assignments of the season. The Pyrenees in autumn are unmatched; light, weather, and landscapes that change by the hour.
This time, besides chasing the front of the race across mountains and valleys, I also took the portraits at the start line; something I wasn’t always comfortable with, but that this year felt different. I’m genuinely proud of those faces, that calm before the storm.
Two weeks have passed since the finish, and I’ve had time to look back at those moments; the ones that close the ultra-distance season for me.
Here’s to 2026: new races, new adventures, and more impossible feats captured on the road

Trans Pyrenees Race No5: A New Chapter in the Mountains

Up until now, @transpyrenees has always been a love letter to the road, an ultra-distance journey across the mountains between France and Spain. But this year, things have shifted. The fifth edition sees Lost Dot mix things up, taking riders beyond the tarmac and onto mandated gravel parcours to ensure everyone experiences the beautiful portions of off-road riding that the team behind the race have discovered over the past five years.

Starting in San Sebastián for the first time, the race is back in the Basque Country which means a return to the Raid Parcours being ridden East to West. While the route evolves, the values stay firm. Nearly half the field have travelled overland to the start this year, part of Lost Dot’s Green Leaderboard and their push to make ultra racing more responsible for its footprint.

A new start, a new approach, but when it’s all boiled down it’s still what it has always set out to be - a beautifully hard bike race in the Pyrenees.

Stage 2 of @le_pilgrimage proved to be the first real challenge. The long climb through the valley up to the start of the old ‘road’ up to the Galibier most riders focused on getting enough #carbs in.

My most memorable active days in 2024:
- april in Girona with @theleslierobinson and @dpf
- Amerongen loop with @hammerdownfullgas
- may, riding with my colleague Felix to Roermond (180km)
- june in Girona with @joostkl
- july coffee ride with @irwanus_de_verschrikkelijke and @camoanddonuts (220km)
- september ‘operation pheasant’ with my best cycling buddy @nils_r_jkl
- october kayaking Croton river, NY, USA, with @halsiegel whom I’ve been friends with for like forever…
- october foilage Hanover, NH, USA, with @theleslierobinson that feels like a friendship that has been forever…
- november Veluwe gravel with @mathildevanderweerd and @myrtheoosterhout
- and last but not least: the incredible insane idea of @serialcee to gather a bunch of knuckleheads to ride 500km in 2 days in the darkest and coldest of days. Don’t let my focused look at the pic (by @fatpigeon.cc) fool you - I most def was not the most determined kid on the block. I only did half of what I signed up for but it was epic nonetheless. Big shout out for the hard core gangsters! Love you C.
