I stumbled upon this novel months ago while searching NetGalley and it was listed as a “Read Now.” I’m so glad I clicked because if I hadn’t I would have seriously missed out on this amazing experience. Thank you @aaknopf and @netgalley for the E-Arc.

Dava and Barr are a married couple, both academics. Dava is a respected English literature professor while Barr is a narcissistic creative writing professor, desperately searching for a novel to break through and launch his career into the stratosphere. Svetlana is a Russian Studies professor, also at the same college.

Dava and Barr are both unhappy. Barr is frustrated by his career and Dave is dissatisfied in her marriage. At a conterence, she turns to Svetlana for comfort and thus begins an epic love affair.

However as the years go by, Dava’s memory begins to falter and she is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimers disease.

As Dava tries to hold onto her semblance of her life, navigate the rocky terrain of her marriage, her love for Svetlana and for her two young sons, Milo and James, she secretly pens a novel, all jotted down feverishly on legal pads that she keeps hidden-or so she thinks.

Dava’s secrets-and all of her family and Svetlana’s secrets-are in danger of being exposed to the world.

And the most unlikely of all, a remarkable dog called Luna at the rescue shelter, just might lead everyone to the REAL truth.

This novel is told in multiple voices by Barr, Dava, Svetlana, Milo, James, and Evie, Barr’s research assistant. The variety of perspectives is amazing, a way to shine a light on the complexities of this remarkable story. It’s an also a genre-bending novel, equal parts mystery, family drama, romance, tragedy, and even thriller. The characters and their stories leap from the page and really resonate.

Luna, Phoenix, Queen reminds us of the important of telling our stories, of being known, of being loved, of being seen by those around us.

I need to shout this one from the rooftops because it needs to be shared.

READ IT! (I want to talk to someone about it lol).

QOTD: What’s a book you recommend that people MUST read?
