Come celebrate spooky season at @thetaraatlanta as Behind the Slate Presents ‘The Cremator’ (1969) by Juraj Herz part of our year-long FILMS AGAINST F**CISM SERIES.

This groundbreaking horror film from the Czech New Wave follows a 1930s cremator who believes cremation relieves souls from earthly suffering…with disastrous and f**cist results!

As always, the film will be accompanied by a film history intro by @strandedonstage and an audience discussion.

Dragon Ball Z Inktober prompt 1. Goku. It been a long time since I’ve drawn, but it felt great and I’ve always wanted to part take in the Inktober art challenge. Lots of options out there, but ultimately, I chose my favorite anime of all time. I may do other Inktober challenges, stay tuned! #intober2026 #intober#dragonballz#goku

Thursday 9/24 were screening ‘The Ascent’ by legendary female Soviet filmmaker Larisa Shepitko.

Considered one of the greatest war films ever made its legacy has grown due to Shepitko’s tragic death shortly after the film’s release. It was SAVED from censorship by her surviving husband, filmmaker Elem Klimov (who would go on to direct ’Come and See’)

We’ll be joined by Dr. Amir Ahmadi, director of policy and advocacy at @50501_ga

As always the screening will be accompanied by a film history intro and a post-film audience discussion.
