Sophia Kai at The Listening Room Berlin

An album listening of Karavi, spoken word and unreleased songs, live.

Multilingual writer and musician Sophia Kai carries Greek, French, Spanish and English into acoustic world folk: atmospheric, with Balkan and Mediterranean undertones. Her work restores listening as a deliberate, shared experience between artist and audience. For one evening she brings it into the room: unreleased songs (live) and her poetry in spoken word.

Album Alchemists is our own format, where deep listening meets storytelling and a live extension of the work. An intimate space close to the artist, with fellow music lovers, in a meditative atmosphere and hi-res sound.

Misschien komt mijn angst voor diep water van de schepen die lang, lang geleden de maandenlange oversteek maakten van India naar Zuid-Amerika. Misschien weet ik niet wanneer te stoppen met werken omdat ergens in mijn lichaam een herinnering besloten ligt van blijven doorgaan, ook als je niet meer kan. Misschien is mijn verzet niet luid, maar stil, omdat overleven nog generaties diep in mijn systeem zit. Misschien maakt misleiding mij zo boos omdat het ooit het lot heeft bepaald van mijn voorouders.

Ik weet het niet. Maar ik kies er wel voor om me te blijven verdiepen, te blijven lezen, leren en kijken, te blijven verkennen tot in het diepste van mijn ziel. Het leed dat ooit is gevoeld te erkennen, de kwaliteiten die ‘ons’ hebben gebracht tot waar we nu zijn te eren. Ik kies ervoor om mijn medicijn met eerbied te delen. En ik kies voor helen. Voor mijn voorouders, voor mezelf, en voor mijn kinderen 🦋

We have a very special evening planned with @journalofthesoul on the 14th of October at @genezarethkirche.

Come join us for an evening of music, spoken word, deep listening and connection. Sophia’s sound and words are moving and always touch a deep place in our hearts

This will also be our project @astralaguna’s last offering in Berlin for the next six months, as we’re heading back to South Africa to spend some time with family and introduce our son to them.

So this feels like a particularly special moment to gather with our Berlin community one last time before we leave to listen, connect, sing and journey in song together.

Also today you landed your first editoral modelling gig for the whole family for @fantasticmrnilsson that we will be shooting next week in Barcelona 🐦‍🔥🧘🏼‍♀️🪲😛🥰🥹

You have been the greatest blessing and joy, I feel so abundantly grateful to be your mother in this lifetime, witnessing Lua’s love, care and devotion for her little sister and your pappa’s excitement, tears and joy for having another libra soul next to him has truly been a gift from the cosmos.

- Although this year has brought so much sadness and shadow work into my heart, I remain steadfast in trusting the journey ahead of us and remain humbled by the privilege of the health and healing that remains within our union.

On Saturday 31 October, I’m bringing Unlocking More to Hackney; a one-day journey through Systemic Family Constellations, exploring what happens when we bring our desires into the field and become curious about what stands between us and them.

What we experience as resistance, self-sabotage or feeling stuck may have a deeper story.

And it doesn’t have to be a family issue.

We begin with what is alive now; love, money, work, purpose, belonging, creativity, intimacy; and allow the constellation to reveal where the entanglement may sit: personal, relational, familial, cultural, ancestral or within the wider systems we belong to.

Rather than fighting resistance, we meet it. We listen to what it may have been protecting, carrying or remaining loyal to and explore what becomes possible when it no longer needs to hold the same place.

No previous experience of constellation work is needed. You don’t need to know exactly what you want to work on. Curiosity is enough.

I’m incredibly excited to be joined by @journalofthesoul Sophia Kai, bringing her words, voice and music into the field. She’ll share song as we close, with the possibility of music weaving through the day.

I’ll also be supported by @aliyamusiic bringing live soundscapes, and @farahorths , supporting the holding of the space.

We are so excited to be co-creating a very special evening of music, presence and connection with Sophia Kai on the 14th of October at Genezarethkirche in Berlin.

We invite you to come sing with us, listen with us, connect with us, and simply receive.

This will also be our last concert and offering before we leave Berlin for six months, which makes this evening especially meaningful for us. We would love to gather with our community, our dear friends and loved ones, and perhaps some new faces too, before we go.
