Update: TWINKIE IS STILL IN DANGER BUT WAS EXTENDED UNTIL MONDAY. Please save him.

Twinkie and Maxwell are scheduled to die at 8 am on Sunday 10/18 unless a foster or adopter steps up tonight. Their deadline has passed. This is their last chance to be noticed and make it out alive.

Twinkie #A2292863 is only 4. He arrived covered in wounds, still wearing his owner’s collar and tag. But no one showed up. Volunteers describe an affectionate, smart boy who is eager to bond.

Maxwell #A2284407 is just 1. His family surrendered him when they moved. He is still a goofy puppy who loves toys, splashing in the pool, and being with people.

Two young lives. Two boys who were failed by their owner. Both would thrive in a caring home without other dogs, where they can learn and decompress.

If you can help, do not wait until the shelter opens at 11 am. Arrive at 8 am when staff gets there. Twinkie and Maxwell could be euthanized before the doors open.

@journeyswithjagger Rex is scheduled to be euthanized if he is not saved before his October 18th EOD deadline.
I recently shared Rex because I knew that he needed help but unfortunately his situation has become urgent after he was given a deadline and now we have to find him a new home fast before it’s too late.
I found out that the people who surrendered him are actually his second owners after he was left behind by his original owners. His second owners only had him for about a year and a half but they had many good things to say about Rex such as: he is potty trained, he did well with their 5 year old, and that he is very calm. They also said that they kept him inside and that he is crate-trained/sleeps in his crate. Unfortunately, they prioritized their other dog over him and surrendered him for that reason.
Honestly I’m shocked that this dog has been abandoned twice in his life. He is essentially the perfect German shepherd in my eyes and while I do appreciate his recent owners for taking him in when he was left behind the first time, he doesn’t deserve to be discarded like this just because he’s growing older.
Please SHARE Rex so we can help him find a new home before it’s too late. This dog has so many wonderful qualities about him and he would be an amazing companion.
He only has until the end of this Sunday to make it out.

7 Years Old, 61 Ibs
Unaltered Male German Shepherd

Update: ADOPTED

Maxwell #A2284407 won’t survive without a miracle at North Central Shelter in Los Angeles. Just 1 year old, this innocent baby boy desperately needs a foster or adopter by 4 pm on Saturday, October 17th, or he will be euthanized due to fear and stress in his cage. In July, Maxwell lost his home and family when they moved and said he couldn’t come along. Since then, he has been understandably sad, overwhelmed, and frustrated. Volunteers say Maxwell is an adorable, goofy puppy full of life and playful energy who adores toys and taking a dip in the pool. Likely undersocialized, he can be selective around other dogs and prefers the company of people. Maxwell deserves a devoted owner willing to help him become his best self through patience, training, and care. Please share his story today. Foster, adopt, or pledge toward his rescue before it’s too late. Maxwell is way too young to lose his chance at a happy future.

**Please contact the shelter directly with any questions or interest in helping. It’s best to visit in person since they rarely answer the phones.

Update: RESCUED

Nami #A2293233 is a puppy in urgent danger at North Central Shelter in Los Angeles. Just 7 months old, this gorgeous petite baby needs a foster or adopter by 4 pm on Thursday, October 15th, or she will die after the people she trusted left her behind. Nami’s owners got her at 3 months old, then dumped her 3 months later in September. They reported she was nippy with their children when they “do things she doesn’t like” and nipped the husband’s finger when he tried to grab her while she was hiding under a bed. Yet they also called her “friendly and outgoing” with strangers and “relaxed and playful” with other dogs. Instead of providing patience, support, and training, they walked away, like she didn’t matter. Volunteers describe Nami as a cute and smiley sweetheart who approaches for affection and leans in to be petted. Treat-motivated and eager to please, she already knows commands like “sit” and “down.” In playgroups, Nami is social, gentle, and excited to romp in the yard with her canine friends. She deserves the chance to learn and grow, but instead, she is facing death and quickly running out of time to make it out of here alive. Please don’t let Nami be failed again. Consider being a foster or adopter, share her story, or pledge support so a reputable rescue can step in. It would be utterly heartbreaking for her life to end when it has barely just begun.

**Please contact the shelter directly with any questions or interest in helping. It’s best to visit in person since they rarely answer the phones.

Update: RESCUED

Luna #A2268025 is about to lose her life at North Central Shelter in Los Angeles. Unless a committed foster or adopter steps up for this beautiful 4-year-old Cane Corso mix girl by Thursday, October 15th at 4 pm, she will be euthanized for being scared and stressed after waiting so patiently to be noticed. Luna was abandoned by her owner in April, still full of milk, alongside her puppies. They have all been adopted, but six long months later, she remains overlooked and forgotten. Initially nervous, Luna has become a volunteer favorite with her sweet, social personality. A recent “Adventure Buddy Day” gave her a break from confinement, and she thrived. Gentle and dainty in playgroups with other dogs, she savors the freedom of time spent outside. Luna also has a cherry eye condition that is treatable with proper veterinary care. One caring person could turn her death sentence into the new beginning she truly deserves. Please share her story far and wide and pledge your support so she can escape this nightmare and make it out alive. Luna should be comforted through her fear, not condemned for being unable to hide it.

RESCUED BY @sweetangeldogrescue

Gucci #A2289276 is next to be euthanized at North Central Shelter in Los Angeles. Unless he is adopted or fostered by Tuesday, October 13th at 4 pm, this precious, scruffy 2-year-old boy will die, having already lost his home and the person he loved. Gucci arrived on August 12th after his owner tragically passed away. Deemed “personal property,” he waited for family to reclaim him. Nobody came. Understandably stressed, confused, and frightened, he now faces an unfair death sentence for struggling to cope with circumstances beyond his control. Volunteers describe Gucci as a “sweet guy who needs time to trust.” Curious about his surroundings, he seems to seek reassurance by standing beside you. Once comfortable, he enjoys pets and reveals his friendly, gentle personality. He even allowed a volunteer to open his mouth to examine a tooth. Gucci appears overwhelmed around other dogs in playgroups and clearly prefers being with humans. A quiet place to recover could change everything for him. Please, step forward as Gucci’s foster or adopter before it’s too late. Pledge support and share his story everywhere. Let’s give him somewhere to belong and a chance to feel cherished again. Losing his closest companion should not cost him his future.

UPDATE: Rescued by @goodtailsrescue!! Please see the link in their bio to honor pledges 🙏FOSTER NEEDED- Contact @goodtailsrescue

Thursday 10/8 is Broccoli's last day.🚨

Broccoli has been at the shelter for just 40 days. He is medically alerted and now scheduled for euthanasia. And it would be tragic for a young, vibrant dog to lose his life for a common and treatable infection❣️

We've lost a few friends recently, other black dogs with treatable medical, and we hope this time it's different for Broccoli.

This sweet guy is just 1 year and 2 months old. His life has barely begun, yet he is now at risk of losing it because he tested positive for coccidia - which is common in dogs and treatable with a prescription medication - but he is not recovering at the shelter and needs a safe and clean environment to heal.

Broccoli is an affectionate pup, likes to play fetch and will bury his head in your lap if you let him. The medical staff even noted how friendly he was 🩵

Medical Info ⚕️
- Estimated 1YR intact male dog with persistent recurrent diarrhea; treated for coccidiosis (positive on 9/18) (r/o stress/ poor transition to shelter setting vs. reinfection vs. inflammatory vs. other infectious (parasite vs. other) vs. malabsorptive condition/ unsatisfactory food quality vs. IBD vs. other GI conditions)
- Underweight, despite in shelter supportive care/extra feedings

Broccoli has only had time to participate in two playgroups, where he was mostly flighty and anxious. The shelter environment can be incredibly stressful for a young dog like him, and he's hardly had the time and space to settle.

Broccoli deserves a place to recover and just be a dog ❤️‍🩹

He is far too young for his story to end here.

Please Share, Comment, offer to Foster, Adopt or Pledge toward his rescue!

Visit North Central tomorrow to meet him❣️

RESCUED🎉🎉 Thank you @apurposefulrescue💗

Halibut is one of the lucky dogs who got a break from shelter life this past Saturday when she participated in the Adventure Buddy Day! Thank you fosters for getting the dogs out for a day of fun!💗
2 year old girl, Halibut, is back at the shelter now & hoping this sweet video her day-foster made will attract a longer term foster or adopter to come to North Central to meet her ASAP!✨

“Halibut did well in a lively cafe environment. She didn’t beg for food or approach other guests and dogs (who started barking). She took some time to settle but ended up lying down and was able to take a nap while we ate! She walked very well on the leash, no pulling and easy to redirect. She did not chase anything and basically walked at my heel the whole time with a loose leash. Halibut did very well in her interactions with kids, men, and women. We took her to Echo Park and she did not react to any of the wild geese either, which was amazing! She was initially a bit anxious getting into the car, but by the end of the day she was going in easily! The people who interacted with her said if it weren’t for the Adopt Me vest, they would’ve thought she was my dog she was so well behaved!”

VISIT NORTH CENTRAL to MEET HALIBUT!
Please SHARE to help her find a home!

Update: IN FOSTER CARE 👏

George #A2280103 is set to lose his life at North Central Shelter in Los Angeles. This darling 3-year-old pup will be euthanized unless a foster or adopter steps up before Wednesday, September 23rd at 4 pm because he is fearful and stressed. George arrived as a stray in June, initially very timid, but volunteers have seen a completely different side of him. In the yard, he is silly, joyful, and puppy-like, zooming around, romping with toys, and leaning in for pets. George also knows how to sit and takes treats gently. He has gained confidence through playgroups with other dogs, offering appropriate greetings and corrections while remaining social and steerable. Sadly, George was given a death sentence because the constant confinement has left him nervous and overwhelmed. All he needs is one caring person willing to open their heart and home to spare him a tragic end. Please share George’s story everywhere, pledge support, and consider being a foster or adopter today. He does not deserve to die for being afraid.

**Please DM @friendsofnorthcentralshelter with any questions or interest in helping to save him.

Enzo #A2278214 is a puppy in danger at North Central Shelter in Los Angeles. This handsome 10-month-old Shepherd mix urgently needs a foster or adopter by 4 pm on Wednesday, September 23rd, or he will be euthanized after being failed by his family. Adopted at 4 months old, Enzo was surrendered just six months later when his owner claimed he had reportedly tried to nip their children. Yet during his evaluation, even staff saw no signs of aggression. Volunteers say Enzo is a sweet, friendly, playful, energetic baby. He can be jumpy and mouthy and would greatly benefit from basic obedience training to improve his impulse control. In playgroup, he is social with other dogs, though his style can be rough, rowdy, and sometimes pushy. Instead of being given patience and guidance, young Enzo was left behind before he had the chance to grow up. Please share his story immediately, foster or adopt, or pledge support to help a reputable rescue pull him before his deadline. He deserves to finally know what it feels like to be safe, cherished, and chosen by someone who will never give up on him.

**Please DM @friendsofnorthcentralshelter with any questions or interest in helping to save him.
