Ballet Folk has been carefully crafted over the years through the most incredible artistic collaborations with folk artists.

The Autumn Equinox act of our new seasonal folk ballet ‘The Solar Wheel’ premiered last weekend and we were delighted to have artist @billieachilleos design and craft these stunning head pieces for our dancers @christinarebeccagibbs and @charlotteolivianorman

Having our new home @parndonmillharlow allows us to work with an array of talented artisans and craftsmen.

Huge thanks Billie for these delicate pieces of folk art that transformed our costumes. 🍁🍂 with stunning photography by @jezwardlumos 📷

Through Legendary Essex last year I met the lovely Deborah from @balletfolk_uk and we conceived a four part ballet celebrating agricultural traditions across the seasons, to be performed at the equinox juncture. Yesterday was part one, danced in celebration of the harvest and Balletfolk 's 7th year underneath the willow tree at the beautiful creative haven that is Parndon Mill. A pinch me moment! I'm creating painted and printed costumes for the next 3 parts - the next one is in December, I'll keep you posted with dates and times xxx

The Solar Wheel act 1
Performed yesterday in the shade of a magical Willow Tree @parndonmillharlow in celebration of the Autumn equinox and @balletfolk_uk 7th birthday!
Deborah Ward and I created the concept for this ballet, to be shared at the four turning points of the year, after sharing our love of folk traditions when I was working on the @legendaryessex project last year. We have plans for participatory art making to a company performances and to tour in Essex next year. I'm painting and printing costumes that symbolise agricultural traditions, and growing cycles honouring community and our deep ties to the land.
Deborah work shopped this first piece of dance with a fab audience at Folk East a few weeks ago.
Our next performances for Winter are in the same venue on 19th and 20th December xx
I fell in love with the music of @ebonybuckleofficial who sang folk songs for us after the show x

Delivered 🙂 🌳 A new metre square painting commission 'The Road Home' inspired by the portal like Dark Hedges road in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. There's lots of pink and orange neon in the background of this that's not really picked up by the camera. I'm so pleased with how it came out, I was going for dreamlike over botanical. So honoured it's gracing the mantlepiece in this client's beautiful home.

Commissions typically take me a month to 6 weeks as I need to build in a bit of overthinking, and sometimes paint two versions alongside each other to avoid getting the fear xx dm me with any enquiries 🖌️

Join us at Hart’s Books to celebrate the launch of Tom Rigby’s debut poetry collection, Eighteen Hours.

Eighteen Hours runs through the course of a day in which each station of the clock provokes the start of different conversations. Each chapter is named for a series of sequential periods, starting with sunrise and ending at midnight, providing the opportunity to explore themes of growth, love, acceptance and the domestic. Moving from dawn to dusk and beyond, this collection is grounded in everyday life, where both vulnerability and openness appear alongside an opportunity to reflect.

The evening will be relaxed and celebratory. Tom will be doing a short reading from the book, followed by a casual Q&A, and there’ll be plenty of time to chat, browse, and celebrate together. Copies of the book will be available to buy from Hart’s and signed by Tom on the night.

Wine and water will be available.

This is Tom’s very first book, and we’d love nothing more than for him to be celebrated the way he deserves by being surrounded by people who love words, stories, and independent bookshops. Everyone is welcome, whether you’re friends or family, a poetry reader, a curious browser, or just fancy a cosy evening among books.

WHEN?

Monday 24th August,
6.30pm-8.30pm

WHERE?

Hart’s Books, Saffron Walden

Small Stories is a warm, all-ages open mic held in a cosy local bookshop, inviting children and parents alike to share words in a relaxed and supportive space.

This event welcomes poetry, spoken word, short stories, favourite book passages, jokes, diary fragments, or half-finished ideas; anything you’d like to read aloud. There’s no expectation to be polished or perfect. Small Stories is about bravery, curiosity, and the joy of sharing.
Parents and carers are actively encouraged to take part. When children see adults step up and share words too, it helps show that speaking aloud isn’t scary, it’s something we can do together.

For children, Small Stories offers a chance to reconnect with
