The ‘Declaration of Interdependence’ is a social justice offering created by @artequity_’s BIPOC Leadership Circle 2024 “Meow Party” Squad. The intention of the offering is to provide a paradigm shift in our industries, fields, models, communities, and personal lives as arts leaders. In pursuit of a more equitable practice and strategy centering community healing and support, the ‘Declaration of Interdependence’ was formed in response to address and counter the Western capitalist belief system that wealth is accumulated for individuals, as opposed to prioritizing wealth for the good of the community. Declaration of Interdependence was produced out of our conversations of rest, restoration and reconstitution. We aspired to lead by that example and utilize our time together to address those three things. The more we dove into those conversations-meeting our peers at the crossroads of restlessness and rejuvenation, was rehabilitation. Additionally, we found that our wellbeing is the reflection of the state of our industries. What we need is rest, and when rest is not enough, what slips from our grasp is enough for another to hold; an interdependence. In contrast to the Declaration of Independence, the Declaration of Interdependence is a living, breathing manuscript, intended to be reshaped over time to unite the needs of the global majority. We hope you take some time to pause, to read, and to consider a more just and equitable community that reflects our connectedness. The BIPOC Leadership Circle Retreat was amazing! I met some incredible people doing needed, necessary, and awesome work in their communities. We had easy conversations, and we had hard conversations, but at the end of the day, we saw that a new world is possible through community. So much love to the artEquity facilitators for all their hard work and even more love to all my cohort fellows! Keep shining, y'all, we got this! ❤️✨️

As I move farther in my #TYA career, I am delighting in the ritual of prioritizing play in everything that I do. Many thanks to @tyausa1965 and @alliancetheatre for providing the space to collectively lean into play, reflection, and action! At what other professional conference can you make and trade friendship bracelets and network on Seseme Street?!? ID: 1. Today’s Breakout Session highlight is “Creating Narrative-Driven Non-Verbal Two-Character TVY.” Drawing upon Arts on Horizon’s two-person Theatre for the Very Young (TVY) model and Emerson College’s graduate New Works Laboratory class, this interactive session will explore how to create original, nonverbal Theatre for the Very Young (TVY) productions for children ages 2-5 and their families. Together we will explore the following questions during the session: How can I develop characters and narratives for TVY? What devising tools support the exploration of movement and physical theatre in TVY?
