As we commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on our nation, we pause to honor the life and memory of Ada L. Mason-Acker—a native of Picayune, Mississippi, and a proud 1973 graduate of Jackson State University. Ada served as a budget analyst for the U.S. Army and is now recognized as a 9/11 Pentagon Memorial Hero.

On this solemn occasion, we remember all the lives lost, pay tribute to our courageous first responders and service members who sacrifice so much to protect us, and offer our continued prayers and support to the families whose lives were forever changed.

In honor of the victims, first responders and service members affected by September 11, the Veterans Center and the Department of Art invite you to Art & Service: 9/11 Day of Remembrance. Join us on September 15, 2026, as we honor, reflect, and serve together through the healing power of art.

Special thanks to @911day and @americorps for leading the way in national service.

Here is just a small selection of amazing CASE moments from Day 2 of our festival last weekend!

These photos are from student presentations during the concurrent sessions. Their projects ranged from art to research to fiction to poetry and beyond. Each student was prepared, eloquent, and eager to discuss their works, and they definitely impressed our audience of campus and community members.

We'll continue to post more memories tomorrow, so check back in!

Attention students and educators! We're excited to offer the first CASE Fest Q&A, a virtual presentation all about how to get involved with our annual Creative Arts and Scholarly Engagement Festival! 📖🎨✏

In this Zoom meeting, we'll cover proposal submissions, important dates, award requirements, and more. We'll also give you plenty of time to ask questions at the end of the presentation, with Margaret Walker Center staff and JSU Art Department faculty ready with the answers!

If you want to showcase your art or research in front of an audience and build your resume, then attending this Q&A is a great start.

✨ Registration is required: https://shorturl.at/2SIjq Flyer advertising the CASE Fest Q&A, with a photo of students posing with an award certificate, and a qr code leading to registration. Text heavy, more info in caption.

Our colleagues in the JSU Africana Digital Humanities Lab are doing great work! Take a look at the flyers to read more about them, their fascinating projects, and how to show your support.

Highlights:

🔵 “The lab is a new creative, collaborative space where Jackson State University students, faculty, and partners explore the intersections of Black history, digital innovation, and storytelling.”
🔵 “This semester, the Lab was a key partner in a major collaboration with Monument Lab through a new Mellon-funded 100k grant supporting the Scott Ford Houses project, advancing community-based preservation and digital storytelling in Jackson.”
🔵 “Next semester, we’ll launch the ADH Reading Group, host new digital creation workshops, and prepare for the Year One Showcase: a celebration of student-led innovation and community storytelling.”
🔵 “We’ll also announce our first Faculty AI Research Fellowship, expanding the lab’s role as a space for experimentation and scholarship at the intersection of technology and Black studies.”
