Recommendations and safety info for the world facing position while babywearing:

⭐️ Baby needs to be, at minimum, able to tripod sit. This is not a safe position for a newborn

⭐️ Baby needs to be tall enough that their chin and neck clears the top of the panel, to avoid the carrier covering their face or putting pressure on their airway

⭐️ Baby can NEVER sleep in world facing- if they’re getting drowsy, turn them around

When we think about optimizing support, here’s what we’re looking for:

💛 Baby is high and snug on the adult’s body without being overly tight or forced into a flattened or arched position in the spine

💛 The carrier facilitates abduction of the legs and offers support to the thighs rather than baby’s legs hanging straight down (think chair, not bicycle seat)

💛 The adult does not feel excessive pulling, shoulder strain, lower back strain, or pelvic floor pain

Know that world facing is optional- you don’t need to do it, even if your carrier facilitates it. You can opt for inward facing, hip carrying, or back carrying instead!

I personally choose to skip world facing and generally advocate for my clients to do the same, but if you choose to utilize this position, it’s important to understand how to best support yourself and your baby and keep you both safe! 🫶🏻
