Everybody wants to raise their haircut prices, but nobody wants to talk about raising booth rent. Here’s a model I think deserves a conversation: your weekly booth rent should equal about 10 haircuts. If you charge $40, that’s $400 a week. Charge $50? That’s $500. The idea is simple: 10 clients cover your chair for the week. For an established barber, that could be one solid day of work. The rest of the week is yours to earn, cover your other expenses, and build profit. Meanwhile, the owner is responsible for the lease, utilities, insurance, maintenance, and whatever supplies the shop provides. Those bills don’t stop because a chair is empty or somebody has a slow week. From what I’m seeing, booth rent has stayed the same and in some places gotten cheaper while the cost of keeping a shop open keeps climbing. Are owners lowering rent to hold onto barbers? And if so, how long can that actually work? The booth rent model has to make sense for BOTH sides. A barber needs room to make good money, and an owner needs enough revenue to maintain a shop worth working in. Ten haircuts isn’t a perfect formula for every market or every shop, but I think it’s a reasonable starting point. Especially when the owner carries the long-term financial commitment. Barbers: would you pay the equivalent of 10 cuts a week for a well-run shop? Owners: would that cover your costs and leave a worthwhile profit? Let’s hear both sides.. . Here are the results of our latest look and learn. This class was a success, and I’m grateful to everyone who came out, shared their time, and trusted me to break down my approach to cutting. For this look, we focused on creating a soft, modern mod keeping fullness through the sides and back while building a soft, rounded fringe and maintaining a strong overall silhouette. The goal was to remove weight strategically without taking away the density of the shape, giving the hair more movement while keeping that effortless, lived-in feel. More than anything, I wanted everyone to leave with techniques and a better understanding of why we make certain decisions behind the chair , knowledge you can take directly into your own workflow.
