Downhill Midwest was a ton of fun a couple weeks ago!

Had some bad luck with a crash in a rock garden that took my derailleur and hanger out so had to do my qualifying run chain less and ended up washing the front into a tree.
@smoleneaston had blown up his rear wheel so we had to nascar pit stop after he did his qualifying run and switch the wheel and the rotor over.
@owenjonecker let me use his Slash for my race run and I finished p10.
They weren’t lying when they said @alexandersonmtb knows how to put on an event. Definitely going to try and make it to all of them next year!
I also won a GoPro from a random drawing!

Copper Harbor Trails Fest - Enduro - Always one of my favorite races of the season! @lake_superior_gravity_series

P14 - The rowdy new Speed Trap stage put me down with a slick root. On the bright side, I didn’t botch the Red Trail climb for a 3rd straight race!

Good times riding with the crew @fullermountainbiking @jbriggs35!

Huge thanks to everyone who stopped by the shop this weekend! Now is a great time to get your bike in for service after a big weekend of riding. Be sure to schedule your service soon as we are reducing our shop hours in the coming weeks. Just a reminder: we still have Kona process X DHs in stock and on sale in all sizes, framesets and forks available also.

Duluth Trailsfest 2026

There is nothing like racing at home, hearing familiar voices holler your name down the trails you love as you put it all out there. I revel in all the genuine hellos, rooting for and catching up with a couple hundred members of the bike fam, all between chasing those elusive clean lines through rocks, roots, fear, self-doubt and risk.

On Friday I wanted out. I wanted an excuse not to do it. Too scary. Too hard. I haven’t practiced enough. I’m not in good enough shape. The fears of getting hurt, not doing my best and more, we’re all popping up for me. That evaporated partway through the first stage.

After greenman, a trail I was feeling nervous to ride, let alone race, I felt so damned powerful. There truly is nothing else like it for me, putting down a strong race run and feeling the mental game, physical strength, technical skills, trail and machine all come together. The more nervous I am, the sweeter the finish. Every freaking time!

I love being out there with other people doing their thing too. I often see these events like initiations. In a culture where we’ve lost many of the communal ways we ceremonialize, celebrate and transition, I think many of us have found that deep meaning in endurance racing. It creates opportunities for vulnerability, perseverance, teamwork, self-discovery, character building and exploration.
Spend the day racing 7 stages of grit with someone and you will see what they have going on under the hood.

Something special about this year was seeing all the COGGS Crew jerseys and volunteers out contributing and connecting. I’m so proud to be leading this Crew.

Big big Thank you to all the organizers, volunteers, sponsors, vendors! Thanks Pat at Devo and all the Devo and COGGS folks who made this happen- the biggest Duluth bike fest yet!!
