What a pleasure and privilege it was to take part in this extraordinary family reunion (cousinage), bringing together generations of relatives from across the globe to celebrate our shared heritage.
It was a particularly moving occasion as we gathered in the town of Úpice to pay tribute to my great-uncle, Richard Morawetz, whose legacy remains an integral part of the town’s history.
Cousins, aunts, uncles, and direct descendants of the Morawetz family came together from all corners of the world for this memorable homage, before continuing our celebrations at the beautiful Zámek Světlá, just outside Prague.
The château holds a special place in our family’s history. Richard acquired it in the early 1900s as a summer residence, and it was here that my mother spent part of her childhood, playing with her cousins before the family eventually moved to Canada. Returning to a place filled with so many memories and such a rich family legacy made this gathering all the more meaningful.
My heartfelt thanks to @justinm_007 for the invitation; to Helen and @pegeenrubinstein for their dedication in organising these wonderful events; and to Dr. Marta Marianová and her husband, George, for so graciously welcoming us all at @zameksns, and for their remarkable commitment to preserving Zámek Světlá, its beauty, and its history.
A truly unforgettable celebration of family, heritage, and the enduring connections that bring generations together, no matter how far apart life may take us.

I have this image lately of life like a trail through the forest, and me gripping the hands or wrists of my friends as we walk together, and realizing their hand sometimes slips out of mine and they take a trail that arcs away, and sometimes I find them later, and we walk together again. Or there is this other image, in which I’m sitting with a friend, and everything changing around our chairs as I look at their face, which is shifting too, but so slowly I can’t put my finger on what’s changed, and it’s always in a way that deepens my love for their face.
