Bridging Bell’s conceptual use of light and nuances of fashion photography, Fredrik captures the serene movement of the bare human body under various lightings and compositions complimented by a peculiar play with light, shadow, and reflection.

Public swimming pools are spaces of unsparing corporeality. While the lack of clothing produces a somewhat democratic atmosphere through erasure of status symbols, the onus of exposing one’s body sparks excitement for some and anxiety for others. Photographer @kira_bunse uses this environment in which the air is thick with hormones and chlorine as the backdrop for her latest project for Tropez gallery (@tropez_tropez). Bunse has photographed young men at Sommerbad Humboldthain, the public pool within which the gallery is located, and assembled the pictures into a photo calendar. Bunse’s photo series is a subversive take on the swimsuit calendar, an outdated format as closely connected to pubescent fantasies as the swimming pool itself. While some poses evoke the association of teenage magazines, the overall tenderness of the series questions the notions of masculinity usually displayed by the poolside. Hit the link in our bio to see more pictures from the series!

The calendar will be launched at Tropez on Sunday, the 28th of July 2019. It is available for purchase on site and via E-Mail.
