I’m Noémie Kadaner, also known as Nuo, a Belgian-French self-taught photographer, documentary filmmaker and cartomancer. I turned from fiction toward documentary as a way of embodying the world through intimate encounter rather than narrating it at a distance.

Combining visual arts with a comparative approach, my work seeks to capture the heritage of world cultures and their philosophies, to move beyond the sociocultural limits that shape us and open new paths for building bridges between our differences, as a way of redefining harmony within the living world.

At the heart of my approach lies the notion of alterity, the I and the you, the observer and the observed. I compose my documentaries intuitively, with a minimalist and sensitive aesthetic and it is in this encounter with the Other that I gather new narratives, which become tangible sources of inspiration for alternative ways of living.

I spent years immersed in different cultures. Taoism, Confucianism, Buddhism and Indigenous wisdom offered me what the cultural framework I had been assimilated into had left unanswered: a way of living grounded in relationality, an approach to knowledge more embodied in experience and transmission, and a metaphysical dimension that has become essential to my path.

Tarot became another way of exploring this invisible dimension. In my spiritual guidance work, tarot acts as a magnifying glass on the subconscious, revealing the shadows of one’s life, and often connects to trauma and transgenerational healing: the identification and transmutation of inherited patterns and the wounds carried through family lineage.

The Threads of Life, made in collaboration with DEYI Studio, is my first independent documentary, devoted to the matrilineal weaving traditions of Dong women in Guizhou, China, and selected for Ethnografilm Paris 2027.

I recently started as the editor-in-chief of Wind & Flow Magazine, born from the Wind & Flow movement founded by Jun Bum Sun, making Korean philosophy and culture accessible to an English-speaking audience through a European and cross-cultural perspective.
