What happens when the owner of Junk Pot Studio @junkpotstudio and the founder of the CT Clay Guild @ctclayguild start scheming together?

Well… apparently, you get Silk City Clay. 👀🏺

After months of dreaming, planning, collaborating, and a whole lot of behind-the-scenes work, we’re incredibly excited to finally share what we’ve been building.

Silk City Clay is opening in Manchester CT in January 2027!

Silk City Clay is more than just a pottery studio. We’re creating a welcoming, community-centered space where people can learn, make, connect, and grow—whether you’re touching clay for the first time or have been making for years.

Our goal is to bring together great instruction, creative community, and a place where people genuinely want to spend time.

Here are the dates to know:

✨ Membership applications are OPEN
Applications are available now through our website.

✨ Class registration opens October 15
Our first classes begin in January 2027.

✨ Studio opens January 2027
And we absolutely cannot wait to open the doors.

We’ve been scheming on this one for a while, and we’re so excited to finally invite you in.
Welcome to Silk City Clay. We’ll see you in January.

Another fantastic meeting with the CT Clay Guild! 🏺✨

Member Hayne Bayless gave us an inspiring demonstration on using extruders and custom dies to create functional pottery. He shared techniques for creating consistent forms, handles, spouts, slabs, and more, while showing us just how versatile an extruder can be. Hayne demonstrated these techniques by creating a cup and a teapot during the meeting! 🫖☕

From clever tools and measuring tricks to 3D-printed dies and innovative teapot construction, there was plenty of inspiration and knowledge to take back to the studio.

A big thank you to everyone who attended, and a huge thank you to Hayne Bayless @dhaynebayless for sharing his expertise with us, and to Junkpot Studio @junkpotstudio for hosting us and providing such a wonderful space for our meeting!

📅 CT Clay Guild meetings are held on the second Sunday of every month. All meetings are free to attend and open to the public. We’d love to have you join us!

Next month, we’ll be meeting at Farmington Valley Art Center @fvacclaystudio for an art-school-style critique. Bring along any pots you’d like to discuss, share, or get feedback on — finished pieces, works in progress, or even something you’re just not sure about!

Come make, learn, share, and connect with fellow clay artists. We hope to see you there! 🤎

✨Join us for our next Connecticut Clay Guild Community Meeting!✨

At our upcoming August meeting, CTCG member Hayne Bayless @dhaynebayless will demonstrate creative techniques, share practical ideas, and offer expert tips for getting the most out of one of the studio’s most versatile—and often overlooked—tools: the extruder. Renowned for his highly sought-after work, Hayne uses the extruder in innovative ways to create distinctive and intriguing functional pottery that showcases the tool’s remarkable creative potential.

📅 Sunday, August 9, 2026
🕑 2:00–4:30 PM
📍 Junk Pot Studio @junkpotstudio
604 New Park Ave, West Hartford, CT

✨ Meetings are FREE and open to the public. You do not need to be a Connecticut Clay Guild member to attend—come by, meet fellow clay enthusiasts, and see what we’re all about. Whether you’re just getting started or have years of experience, we’d love to welcome you.

Our community meetings are pot luck style and held the second Sunday of every month, each at a different member studio. Check out ctclayguild.com for our full calendar, studio and member directories, and information on membership.

We hope to see you there! 🏺✨

What a fantastic turnout for this month’s Connecticut Clay Guild meeting at Wet Clay Works @wetclayworks in New Haven! 🎉

A huge thank you to Drew Darley @drewdarleyceramics for an incredible demonstration on throwing large pots. Drew shared his knowledge and techniques with us, answered everyone’s questions and went above and beyond giving members the opportunity to get on the wheel and try new approaches for themselves.

Thank you as well to Mike @mikepceramics and everyone at Wet Clay Works for hosting us and keeping everyone cool with ice pops on a hot summer day! 🍧

For current members who missed the meeting—or want to revisit Drew’s demo—the recording will be available in the CTCG Member Portal by the end of the week.

Our meetings are held on the second Sunday of every month, and we’d love to see you at the next one! Join us at Junk Pot Studio @junkpotstudio in West Hartford for an extruder demonstration with Hayne Bayless @dhaynebayless

Paint it black!! I had to paint these plates with black slip and thought I’d have a little fun along the way. Instead of just covering them evenly, I played with some patterns that in the end I would cover up. Good experience.

We are constantly in awe of the generosity of our donors. The shelves are stocked with something extra special today.

Thank you @junkpotstudio for bringing us a collection of handmade ceramics. We took special care in displaying these items and are proud to say they are ready to shop!

They have supported our mission at @journeyhomect for multiple years and their kindness is endless.

Visit them for a pottery class! Right across the street from our shop.

A phone was found on the Clay Crawl yesterday. It was accidentally picked up by someone who thought it was theirs. The locations they were at were @avischerichetti @junkpotstudio @artsfvac @fvacclaystudio and @cantonclayworks Please DM us or call it if it is yours. No one has called it since it was found.

The return of the cat butt mug. It’s been a LONG time since we’ve made anything and I always love making these, so I thought it was a good place to start. They are essentially portraits of our cat, Suki (whom is 18 years old already!) These five will be available during the CT Clay Crawl this weekend @junkpotstudio #catbutt #catbuttmug #ceramic #ctclaycrawl
