PLACES TO EXPLORE NEAR PONDICHERRY: RUINS OF THE ALAMPARAI FORT

The Alamparai fort is about 250+ years old and used to be an old port where trades used to take place. It’s also a place you can visit to see the backwaters in Pondicherry. I went to this place for the first time in 2022, and the difference between the place back then and now is STARK.

Over tourism has almost plagued this place. It used to be so untouched. It took about two weeks to process how unsafe we felt going to this place that early in the morning. I used to love going here so much. The water was so clean that you could see everything from hermit crabs, starfishes, sea urchins, and the like.

In fact, I think I say: don’t go here. Give it some rest.

Let it recover, so that somebody can rediscover the same place years later and go: ‘Have you ever gone to a deserted island on a kayak? No? Come, I’ll show you a hidden gem I found’

All-Girl Themed Café in Pondicherry?

If you want a place to chill out with your girlfriends, then @tittletattle.py is the perfect place for you. With the amazingly attractive interiors and photobooths, this place is the most ideal for hosting events like baby/ bridal showers, birthdays and bachelorettes.

The cocktails were out of this world with Glitter Bomb taking the cake and eating it too. We love. @payallogy even went into Food war mode for this 😂

The starters including the mushroom cheese balls and the garlic butter prawns were too good. Main course had its run with amazing mushroom curry and rice and the peri peri chicken sizzler. And finally.. for the desserts, the French toast emerged as the biggest winner.

We absolutely loved the experience. I hope you do too!

READ CAPTION FOR SAFETY RELATED INFORMATION

TIMING: Go between 7am - 5pm
* don’t go alone, travel in a group
- you might have to go off-road so you can go via car or bike, doesn’t make much of a difference
- don’t go away from the factory, because you’ll get lost 500 times if you do
- wear trekking or sports shoes
- don’t wear white pants like some dumb person in the video did, or slippers
- go there only during day time
- carry water and snacks
- find the factory, go near the factory and you’ll be able to see the opening to the canyon nearby

Joined forces with Shivani @justanothersketcher , a fellow urban sketcher from Pondicherry, for a weekend sketch crawl in our quaint town.
