POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

There’s something deeply meaningful about seeing the next generation of talent from Scarborough take up space and represent our home.

I’m incredibly grateful to @rise_edt & @theremixproject for continuing to nurture and invest in young talent, giving creatives the encouragement and opportunity to keep growing.

To my brother @bryanbrock_ for opening up the conversation and curating this project. To our sister @lensoflicia, for all your hard work throughout the process. Truly grateful for you two 🙏🏽🤞🏽

Thank you to @shopstc for creating a space where emerging creatives can be seen, heard, and reminded that their ideas, their stories, and their perspectives have a place in the world.

As someone who grew up creating and finding my own voice, it means a lot to now be in a position to help shine a light on this generation of talent. I am truly proud of this project and even prouder to see where these artists continue to go from here. Sorry I couldn’t tag you all on the actual post @actorclarke @alexis.eke @andyetamer @_berma @ceeforcarnival @dynesti @humbleandhustlin @ceethroughmylens @joyousjadyn @jenbalite @justj.art @growithm3ika @marissa_paps @_markemery @myuri.s @nabrabadr @northenglish @rachelleshow @sreonly @sagal.duale @savannahre @shahaddahjack @shot_byt @cleartamir @ziyaadhaniff 🙏🏽💙

I had a great time at @sundesocial fest helping my mom , supporting the other vendors and watching the talented artists perform!

I may live in Brampton now but I’m a Scarborough girl through and through. I’ve always loved attending community events that showcase our local talent and allow folks to see that there is more to our communities.

Huge shoutout to @rise_edt @hiphop.healing @sundesocial for such an inspiring event!

On The Move 2026! Pt.3 🎨

What started as 9 months of planning and 110 submissions turned into 61 people—40 professional artists, 4 mentorships, two groups & two individual mentees, site safety reps, and volunteers—transforming 500 meters of wall into over 5,000 square feet of high calibre murals.

Looking at this finished site, one milestone hits different: For the first time ever in this city that I'm aware of, a mural site brought together over 10 Black artists without the work being framed around the "Black experience." Just Black creatives being included and coming together to create for the sake of art. That was intentional on my part, that intentionality was everything to me. Making that history happen is something I’m forever grateful for.

Massive thank you to Street Art Toronto for trusting me to lead as visual curator, mentor, and—according to one passerby—artistic director! My co-curator Julián Carvajal, this jam wouldn't have been what it was without your energy and efforts. Huge love to @northerncontemporary for hosting us, @AstroSankofa for your artists's and collaboration and to our volunteers, safety team, performers, and supporters for keeping our spirits high throughout.

To the 40 artists: You brought your A-game, crushed every inch, and turned a concrete underpass into a new favorite spot in the city for many. You all created something phenomenal! 👀🙏🏿🙌🏿💪🏿🔥

Check out the completed works along the Bloor- Perth Underpass if you're in the area and the individual works up close on @streetart_toronto page!

📷 - yours truly

🎨 The murals are the outcome. The artists, mentorship and journey are the story.

A look back at StreetARToronto’s On the Move! — a major moment for AstroSankofa and our growing community of public artists.

The project brought together 10 Black professional artists and 20 youth and emerging artist mentees, creating space for artists to work, learn, exchange knowledge and build alongside one another on a major City of Toronto public art project.

We’re proud of the AstroSankofa artists and affiliates who contributed their talent, experience and mentorship throughout the project, helping to make On the Move! a powerful example of what intergenerational public art practice can look like.

Curated by Phade (@artofphade ) and Julián Carvajal (@julicarvajalto ), the project brought artists together to transform the Bloor and Wallace area through murals, storytelling and community engagement.

Among the many talented artists contributing to the project are members and affiliates of AstroSankofa Arts Initiatives, including:
🎨 @kedredesigns / @bubzart
🎨 Andrew Patterson (Mesmo / @visiblenoise )
🎨 Kanisha Dabreo (@artisticperceptionca )
🎨 Curtia Wright (@curtia)
🎨 Danilo Deluxo (@danilodeluxo)
🎨 Kalkidan Assefa (DRPN Soul)
🎨 Philip Saunders (@ps.loveishere)
🎨 JUST SOUL ART (@justsoul.art - Jamera DaCosta (@justj.art) & AmbsoulArt (@ambsoulart) )

🎙️ Voiceover by our very own Baby Jada (@jada.j.w )
🎥 Shot by the Finding Your Heart (@findingyourheart_to ) team

Big love to all the artists, mentees, curators and community members who made the journey possible.

The murals mark the moment. The journey keeps moving. 🛸

There’s something so special about creating art in a place you’ve never called home, only to leave feeling like you’ve gained a second one. 🇨🇦❤️🇯🇲

I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity to serve as an Artist-in-Residence in Canada. A huge thank you to @astrosankofa and @justj.art for inviting me to be part of this incredible project. Even though the weather was kowl 🥶, everyone’s hearts were warm and I was welcomed with so much love.

Collaborating with Jammy was an absolute pleasure. Together, we created a mural inspired by Jane & Finch Mall and the surrounding community, and I’m honoured to have left a piece of myself there.

Thank you to everyone who made this experience so memorable.
Thank you @torontoartscouncil for funding this project.

One love. ❤️🇯🇲🇨🇦

One mural. Three panels. Countless stories. ✨🎨

Cosmic Crossroads, unveiled on June 26, transforms the façade of Jane Finch Mall into a celebration of the people, histories, and futures that shape the Jane and Finch community. Each panel tells a distinct story, together forming an Afrofuturist vision rooted in culture, creativity, and collective imagination.

Created by lead artist Jamera DaCosta @justj.art (Just J. Art) alongside mentor Komi Olaf @komiolaf and International Artist-in-Residence Pamella Chen @pamellac.c , the mural was brought to life through community engagement, youth mentorship, and the many volunteers who helped paint it.

Produced and project managed by AstroSankofa Arts Initiatives @astrosankofa , with support from the City of Toronto’s StreetARToronto program @start_streetartoronto .
