Iconic people are real people 💛

Some people become iconic not because they chase the spotlight, but because they remain unmistakably themselves.

For more than three decades, Ard Matthews has shaped the soundtrack of South African lives through his work as the frontman of Just Jinjer and as one of the country’s most respected singer-songwriters. His authenticity, creativity and commitment to his craft continue to inspire generations.

We’re honoured to welcome Ard to our Iconic People series, where we celebrate the daily rituals, mindset and choices that shape a life well lived.

We asked Ard if you could bottle one thing and sell it as a supplement what would it be?

Welcome, Ard.

On episode 100 of the #Podcast, I’m joined by South African multi instrumentalist/producer and @JustJinjer bassist - @DenholmHarding.

Denholm began his musical career in Cape Town at the age of 5, when he appeared on a nationally televised talent show open to all ages called ‘Follow That Star’ where he made it through to the finals. By Grade 7, he joined popular kids program K-TV as the ‘K-TV Kids’ Band drummer and moved up to Jhb to pursue his musical career.

The band toured Southern Africa extensively for 3 years and appeared numerous times on multiple television shows.

Barely out of his teens he then joined South African Multi-Platinum super group ‘Just Jinjer’ shortly after the release of their critically acclaimed debut album.

Just Jinjer are considered one of the most successful Rock bands to ever come out of South Africa and have shared stages with artists like @U2, Counting Crows, Stevie Wonder, @maroon5 , Goo Goo Dolls, Def Leppard, @SpiceGirls and Live… Just to mention a few.

In taking the next step Denholm coupled his deep understanding of music + instruments with his spectacular ear and began producing albums for other artists and bands like @JesseClegg and @Prime_Circle. He has since been nominated multiple times for “Best Producer” and “Best Engineer” at the South Africa’s music awards (the SAMA’s) numerous times.

You can leave South Africa… but it never really leaves you. 🇿🇦

I miss the mountains. I miss the sea.
I miss the wildness that raised me.

(Add a bit of @justjinjer and the floodgates open 😭!)
I took it for granted when growing up!
Honestly -how beautiful is my hometown ?!?!?

Maybe that’s why I’ve got “ants in my pants “, why I am always looking for the next adventure ☺️.
