Stay Down, Bank Up! It truly hurts my heart to even be writing this. My childhood friend may be gone physically, but his light, his spirit, his humor, and everything he stood for will live on forever. James was someone special not just to me, but to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. No matter the situation, he could make you laugh and smile. That was his gift. He carried a positivity that was contagious, and he brought light into every room he walked into. And let’s be real… he was definitely a ladies’ man full of charm, confidence, and that unforgettable energy. He loved deeply his family, his friends, his business, and his music. He moved with purpose, and you could see the passion in everything he did. When I first started my talk show back in 2018, he was one of my very first interviews. I wanted to highlight his story his journey, his growth, and everything he had overcome after coming back home. I was so proud of the man he was becoming and everything he accomplished in such a short time. He will truly be missed, but never forgotten #staydownbankup

Week 4 of the Podcast Bootcamp ended strong! Our podcasters got to bring their projects to life by recording their pilot episodes and participating in a branded photoshoot. From developing their visual identity to finding their voice behind the mic, every detail was intentional. Seeing these concepts evolve into real, tangible platforms has been nothing short of inspiring. We’re getting closer to the final reveal, and trust me… you’re going to want to tune in

Week 3 of the Podcast Bootcamp was complete. A HUGE thank you to the president of @wabjdc, @phil.lewis for coming to speak with the creators about journalistic integrity, ethics and insights. From the beginning of this journey, I’ve made it clear how important it is to understand the responsibility of this work and create accordingly. We’re half way done with the bootcamp and the visions are coming to life! I can’t wait to share with you all the finished products!

Week 2 of the Sommer Time Podcast Bootcamp 🎙️✨ Creators got hands-on with the experts at XIIDC Studios. They learned about lighting, cameras, microphones, production flow, and what it really takes to create at a high level. But beyond the tech, we refined identity. Branding was challenged, clarified, and solidified — collaboratively. We are almost halfway through the program, and these creators are not just launching podcasts… they’re stepping into responsibility. The mic is power. And we don’t take that lightly. Welcome to Sommer Time. 🌴

Week 1 of the Podcast Bootcamp was powerful 🎙️ From brand colors to taglines, mission to messaging — we built the groundwork. But more importantly, we talked about responsibility. The legacy of the Black press. And why sharing stories with integrity matters even more right now. So grateful to create alongside storytellers who lead with passion and purpose.

After dozens of applications and interviews, it came down to these standout creators. Each one brings a powerful story and a genuine desire to share it. That’s what matters most here — storytellers who want to create real impact. Over the next five weeks, we’ll build and transform these podcasts and share them with you. Thank you to everyone who applied and supported this journey. Please continue showing love to these creators as they build. Welcome to Sommer Time. 🌴🌴🌴
