One of my favourite things about being part of the running community is getting to show up for other people the same way they’ve shown up for me. ❤️

Yesterday, we headed out to support the inaugural Nelson Mandela Marathon, where runners took on the 5km, 10km, half marathon and full marathon distances.

And man, what a beautiful reminder of why I love this community so much.

I’ve been on the other side of those cheers. I know what it feels like when your legs are tired, your body is begging you to slow down and suddenly you hear someone shouting your name.

Sometimes that’s all you need to keep going.

And yesterday, I got to be one of the people doing the shouting. 😂

Watching people come out to support not only their friends and family, but complete strangers too, was something special.

Because that’s the thing about running. You might be chasing your own goal, fighting your own battles and pushing through your own pain, but there’s an entire community willing to help you get to that finish line.

I’ve always believed that if you want a village, you have to be a villager.

And yesterday was a beautiful example of that.

Doing hard things is tough, but you never have to do them alone.

To everyone who ran, supported, volunteered or cheered, well done!

If you look closely, you can see the power of community. 🥹❤️

What are we actually doing to combat Gender Based Violence in South Africa?

I don’t have all the answers, but I do have a platform, and I can use it to support the people trying to make a difference. 💜

We joined @mustlovehills_runcrew for their karaoke bus at the @nantesathleticclub 10K to raise money for @womenforchangesa

“Joy isn’t going to fix any of this and we know that, but taking over the streets with a speaker in a pram and a crowd of us wearing black and purple singing is its own kind of statement, and it’s a few hours where the women in this community get to enjoy themselves, feel seen and be playful - a privilege so often denied.”

It might not fix everything, but doing something will always be better than doing nothing.

If people want their contribution to go directly towards a Cape Town organisation providing shelter and services to women and children experiencing abuse, consider donating directly to @thesaartjiebaartmancentre 💜

Donation links is in my bio. Every little bit helps. 💜

*Quad Convos: Marisa enters the hot seat… and suddenly words are hard to find.* 😂

If you know Marisa, you know she’s usually got plenty of personality, plenty of energy and definitely plenty to say.

But apparently trying to explain yourself while your quads are being worked on is a different story. 😅

Between the facial expressions, unfinished explanations and a little bit of drama, this one had everything we’ve come to expect from the Quad Convos hot seat.

Sorry Marisa… the questions don’t stop just because the quads are talking. 🤷🏽‍♂️😂

Run(her) recap 💜

Last week, we came together for the Run(her) Women in Running Panel Discussion - an honest conversation around building safer, stronger and more inclusive running communities.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and to the women who shared their experiences, perspectives and ideas so openly. 🫶🏽

A big thank you to our hosts @rabbit.runcult and @runnerssouthafrica and to our partners @kula.energy @bru.worldwide @gilnokie @oakley @phytoceutics_za for supporting the evening.

Creating safer running communities isn't women's work alone - it's a shared responsibility.

Here’s to continuing the conversation and turning it into action.
