A whirlwind trip to Georgia to play some concerts with the magnificent @justtheoneanne ! Fantastic to hear some UGA violists, get to know @maggieviola and hear her students, and a quick trip to Atlanta for a concert at GSU and a long-overdue and far-too-short visit with Alana Bennett! Looking forward to a new piece by @akshayatucker and an album recording this summer! #sopranoandviola #soundsbetteronviola #newmusic #hersecretlife

On Friday, October 2nd, Dr. Slovin and Dr. Voelker visited the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega for a master class and a recital. Thank you to Dr. Yin for having us, and to your students for being so open and creative, as well as engaged audience members!

As an added bonus, we got to meet former UGA pianist @viviandoublestein , who played beautifully for the master class.

“Will I ever sing the same again?”

Dr. Anne Slovin, DM asked herself that question when diagnosed with bilateral nodular swelling during her junior year of college.

In 2009, Anne made the decision to have vocal fold surgery after struggling with increasingly variable vocal function. She completed voice therapy before and after surgery and followed a gradual return-to-voice protocol.

Today, Anne is a professional singer, university voice professor, vocal pedagogue, and in her words, her vocal function has “only continued to improve.”

Be sure to follow and stay tuned to hear more of Anne’s story coming soon!

Last Friday the voice area rang in the new school year with a beautiful recital showcasing our graduate cohort (assisted by amazing collaborative pianist Elena Minko!) and introductions and announcements from the faculty. Here’s to a great semester!

What a complete joy it was to take part in the National Association of Teachers of Singing 59th national conference. I attended so many exceptional presentations, rubbed elbows with some big names in our field, and reunited with many cherished friends, teachers, and colleagues.

I was especially inspired by Will Perkins and Casey Joiner-Isaacs “Recital Glow-Ups”, the stunning and performances of new songs from “We go on, Oswego”. Tish Oney and Jennifer Piazza-Pick’s spotlight on the Women of Tin Pan Alley made we want to return to my work of championing Great American Songbook repertoire as viable educational tools for developing classical singers. Maybe there will be a new non-profit in my future when my time as president of San Diego NATS comes to an end!

My wheels are turning and my desire to create something good for my community is high. Thank you, NATS! I’ve given a lot, but you’ve returned my service in spades.

That's a wrap on NATS 2026! So thankful for all these amazing colleagues, mentors, and friends old and new! Thankful for reunions with people from all stages of my journey (Stetson, Illinois, Missouri State, Lee, South-Doyle High, and the NATS Intern Program), and that @yvonne_gonzored and I were able to present our research on venues, virtual reality, and performance anxiety! @officialnats

Dr. Slovin is representing UGA at the @officialnats National Conference this weekend! She shared a presentation that she developed with Dr. Emily Siar of Boston Conservatory, called “Supporting Students with Voice Impairments in the Studio.” Best of all - her own undergraduate voice teacher and voice therapist were in the audience!
