Coffee Service is a choreographed coffee ritual meant to capture the unseen physical traces of social etiquette by transforming the table, chairs, and dinnerware into instruments for drawing.

Four dancers gather around a table to partake in a formal coffee service. Allan Wexler created custom set pieces for the performance, attaching drawing pencils to the sixteen legs of the chairs and to the base of each of the four coffee cups and pitcher. The floor and tablecloth are both retractable paper canvases.

The project explores the tension between rigid social decorum and the chaotic reality of human interaction—reflecting on both the anxiety of hospitality and the physical marks we leave on shared spaces. The act of drinking coffee becomes a generative drawing process—moving from careful preparation to polite gathering to social breakdown. What begins as a fleeting performance ends as a permanent visual archive, where the dancers’ choreographed movements are preserved in drawn lines on paper, ready to be rolled away for the next event.

$Art Omi presents Onnis Luque | DOMINIO: An Unfinished Visual Archive of Architectural Extractivism on view from March 21, 2026 through May 31, 2026. The exhibition confronts architecture’s grand narrative by illuminating its production processes. Onnis Luque: DOMINIO opens Saturday, March 21 from 1-3 PM in the Newmark Gallery. Sand, stone, and earth are among the most extracted materials on the planet-yet their removal is rarely pictured, let alone understood as foundational to the built environment. In this exhibition, DOMINIO: An Unfinished Visual Archive of Architectural Extractivism, architectural photographer Onnis Luque (@onnisluque_fotografia | @onnisluque_archivo) traces these often-invisible origins of construction back to the raw landscapes from which they are born. What began in 2014 as a roadside encounter with a sand mine evolved into a years-long investigation of Mexico’s extractive geographies-from the Mezquital Valley to the Highlands of Chiapas, the Sierra de las Mitras to the Yucatan Peninsula. Through his lens, Luque captures the aftermath of relentless extraction: fractured hillsides, gaping quarries, and industrial scars etched into the land. DOMINIO makes visible what architectural images often conceal: that buildings are rooted not only in place, but in the distant voids left behind by their materials.
