International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines WA and Promotion of Church People’s Response WA invite you to join us for “Peace with Justice: A Faith Forum Connecting the Fight Against War, Militarism, and Forced Migration in the Philippines to Shared Struggles at Home and Abroad.”

We invite people of all faith backgrounds to engage in this discussion on critical issues of peace and justice. We aim to hear from different communities of faith on their justice work and bridge these struggles together through an analysis of their root causes.

We will hear from faith leaders from the Philippine movement for a just and lasting peace and rally our collective power to end human rights violations, forced migration, and US-led war in the Philippines.

Through discussions we will see how these issues are also connected to important issues our faith communities are already addressing, such as ending the genocide in Palestine, migrant justice, homelessness, and land sovereignty.

Together, we will uncover how US militarism fuels forced migration and war, and how communities of faith are courageously building a just peace.

Today is the 17th day of the month of Tammuz, marking the beginning of a structured period of mourning, the ‘Three Weeks’ leading up to Tisha B’Av, the 9th day of the month of Av, commemorating the destruction of the Temples in Jerusalem and other historic tragedies.

The Three Weeks remind us that grief is crushing if it is not shared, that we must not carry the weight of tragedy alone, that we must not meet the urgency of the destruction with isolation and inaction. In this moment of moral reckoning with the desecration of human life taking place all over the world, we must grieve for the tragedies inflicted on the Palestinian people by Israel and the U.S. We must gather in defence of human life.

This year, we refuse to allow our grief to calcify into inaction, instead, we will use ritual action to catalyze our movement for freedom. Join us on Tisha B’Av, July 22-23 as we gather in seven different cities in the US to hold Tisha B’Av rituals in the streets. LINK IN BIO.

Tacoma Mayor Calls for Sane Nuclear Weapons Policy, Joins Mayors for Peace

Local activists, peace laureates, and physicians gathered at city hall on June 9th, 2026 as Mayor Anders Ibsen proclaimed his support for the international Mayors for Peace network, and urged federal leaders to take action to prevent a new nuclear arms race.

Speakers included Greater Tacoma Peace Laureates Diane Powers and Sallie Shawl, local physician Dr. Karl Riecken, and Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility program manager Sean Arent. They addressed the end of the NewStart Treaty, the scale of modern nuclear weapons, impacts to local communities like the Marshall Islanders, and the action of the late Tacoma Peace Laureate Father Bill "Bix" Bischel who participated in a non-violent direct action at the Kitsap-Bangor Naval Base in 2012 that put a spotlight on the base's possession of other a thousand deployed nuclear weapons.

This action was made possible thanks to a letter signed by a majority of Tacoma's Greater Peace Laureates. A similar action was requested of the Tacoma City Council. Activists are encouraged to write to the Tacoma City Council to pass a companion "Back from the Brink" resolution.

When the path ahead is unclear, turn to those who have walked it. Craig and Cindy Corrie, relentless advocates for the people of Palestine.

That path was chosen for them by the unimaginable loss of their daughter Rachel Corrie. For over two decades they continue to show up with grace. There is so much to learn from people like that.
