Today I had the pleasure of checking out three revitalizad spaces in downtown Jackson, MS!
@downtownjacksonms Urban Studio- launching in The Heritage building and designed by @marysanderscavicchi. The Studio partners with @msstate College of Architecture, Art and Design, @jacksonstateu Department of Regional and Urban Planning, @millsapscollege and @cityofjackson @jxnplanning to create spaces for creativity and talent without out downtown Jackson community!
This space will help the next generations leaders will to create solutions to grow downtown Jackson.
The @walthalllofts and The Courthouse are two revitalized spaces in Jackson into these insanely beautiful apartments. Twenty-four hour security, a beautiful gym and pool are some of the amenities that these spaces offer! A quiet community with great views and vibes.
Downtown Jackson is the perfect place to work, shop and play!

Jackson Friends of the Library is proud to share that @williemorrislibrary is now home to a beautiful new mural celebrating the life and legacy of its namesake and Mississippi author, Willie Morris. This project was made possible through a grant from Mississippi Arts Commission, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, along with the generous support of local corporate partner—Forman Watkins, whose investment in Jackson’s libraries and the arts continues to enrich our community. We are deeply grateful to talented artists @gingerwilliamscook and @allibostromsmith for the hours they spent immersing themselves in Willie Morris’s writings. The result is a thoughtfully designed, vibrant installation that captures his spirit and invites us into the story. They are still putting on the finishing touches, but stop by and take a look sometime — it’s a wonderful addition to an already beautiful and beloved Jackson library.

Sometimes progress looks like a lot of walking, pointing, collective nods, and ahs.

That was Wednesday at Parham Bridges: Travis Crabtree, Clay Hays, and Ben James walking the next phase of the redevelopment, mapping it out one intentional step at a time.

No hard hats, no ribbon, just three guys and a sidewalk, figuring out what comes next for this park.

We can’t reveal everything yet. But we can tell you it’s coming, and it’s going to be worth the wait.

Something good is taking root at Parham Bridges.

On Wednesday, June 17th, we’re planting a wildflower garden with community members, volunteers, and project partners as part of our ongoing redevelopment of the park and continued investment in native landscapes and pollinator habitat.

A big thank you to the Garden Club of Jackson for making this happen alongside us.

Join us from 1:30-3:00PM at the north parking lot, 5055 Old Canton Road.

Last year, TREE and Josh McManus at M|B|P / Make Big Plans helped coordinate Jackson Rising, a 90-day citywide civic engagement and strategic planning initiative created in response to a new city administration taking office addressing the severe challenges of population decline, disinvestment, and fragmented civic coordination impacting Jackson, Mississippi.

The process brought together more than 300 nonprofit, business, community, philanthropic, and public sector leaders through more than 30 workshops organized around 14 focus areas. Together, participants generated more than 400 ideas and contributed over 1,000 hours of collective work toward a quick action plan for public-private partnership.

At its core, Jackson Rising is a simple idea: people working together to solve problems together. The initiative helped develop the Jackson Rising Framework Plan: A Civic Method for Leaders, Investment, and Action in Jackson, Mississippi. The plan captured priority ideas across 14 focus areas, including retaining and growing population in a shrinking city, improving public safety, fixing infrastructure, eliminating blight, growing the economy, strengthening public spaces, and advancing other shared priorities for the city’s future.

In addition to co-leading workshops, the work included extensive research and cartographic analysis, compiling previously developed plans and partner database, and building out a public storefront on Capitol Street to support engagement, coordination, and visibility.

Jackson Rising was supported by the Community Foundation for Mississippi, W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the City of Jackson, Ray & Nancy Neilsen, Great City Mississippi Foundation, Trustmark Bank, and more than 10 additional local businesses and organizations. Local businesses really are the heartbeat of a neighborhood.

They are the places you pop into on an ordinary Tuesday. The ones where you grab coffee, meet a friend for lunch, pick up a gift, or leave with something you didn’t know you needed.

LeFleur East is where it’s at. We’re lucky to have a mix of longtime favorites and fresh new spots, each one adding something meaningful to the rhythm of this community.

They help make this place feel lived in, welcoming, and worth coming back to.

A strong Jackson supports a stronger Mississippi. Thank you to the State of Mississippi, Governor @tatereeves and our legislative leaders for continuing to prioritize the capital city.

This year’s session included more than $100 million in funding for projects across the Jackson metropolitan area, with investments supporting infrastructure, public spaces, and key institutions. Major allocations include improvements to LeFleur’s Bluff State Park, Jackson State University, and roadway and bridge repairs within the city.

Additional investments support neighborhood-level improvements across Jackson, including parks and public spaces. These are important steps toward strengthening quality of life and expanding opportunity for all.

Last year, we showed up to celebrate, connect, and bring a little extra magic to one of Jackson’s biggest days.

This year, we’re building even more momentum as we get ready for the 83rd National Folk Festival | Nov. 13–15, 2026 🎶

From local streets to national stages, the energy is only growing—especially as the festival joins the Smithsonian’s national celebration for America’s 250th 🇺🇸
