First market of the season/ever: DONE!!!!! Thank you SO SO MUCH to everyone who came out to support on the day of in SO many different ways, listened to me vent about my aching body in all of the prep work, indulged my crazy last minute ideas and whims, and held patience for my frantic artist brain. BIGGEST thank you to my mom for stepping up and helping out, running last minute errands, and being a huge emotional support through this very accelerated, draining process. She even let me turn her apartment into a temporary printing studio to get the volume of product I needed finished.

I don’t often talk much about how my health impacts my ability to create, but I wanted to talk a bit about it here as I learn to open up to speaking more publicly about it. My hEDS destabilizes my joints, causing them to subluxate while carving and printing. My back goes into spasm after long days of printing on my feet. Fibromyalgia flares after exertion, and hand printing is an intensive, full body process. POTS makes me nearly pass out every time I stand to re-ink my brayer, then crouch to ink up a block on the floor in my press.

I’ve felt like I’ve been running on fumes for the past month, and my body is really feeling it now, post-market. I woke up in a fibro flare, with allergies, and my weak immune system pulling me deep back into a cold I had almost entirely recovered from. I’m in a lot of pain and discomfort today, missing work and important appointments. I’ve really put my blood, sweat, and tears into making this happen.

But it was worth it. To meet other queer folks and chat, to work with kids and teach them a little bit about printmaking while helping them make something beautiful, to vend alongside some incredible vendors (special shoutout to @juj.junction for hooking me up with market tips I never would’ve thought of and would’ve been panicking about days before), and to get to see people connect with my work in ways I hadn’t gotten to experience yet.

I’m working hard to make the next market (@hastingsflea in June 🌈) even better, and to make the process more gentle on my body and mind. I’m so proud of myself and how much I was able to get done, despite it all.❤️
