Thank God we have people who don’t - and who won’t - give up after a horrific incident. That’s team K9 Iro. This pup survived a terrible event that no handler ever wants to endure.

He’ll be featured in the upcoming K9 fundraising calendar in support of @k9hurricane and @pawsofhonor and you’ll learn more about him soon. 🐾

Thanks for all the love and support these last few weeks. It means the world to us. We are adjusting to the new normal, the house is quieter. We keep expecting to see and hear Tank in all the familiar places.

We will continue to use this account to share our memories of Tank & keep his memory going as well as raise awareness and advocacy for K9’s and retired K9’s everywhere. We know we would not have been blessed to have 14+ yrs with Tank without the support of @pawsofhonor & @k9hurricane .

You will also see Tank’s brother from another mother, K9 Raul, on this account. As an active explosive detection K9 Raul. We hope that by sharing his life, we can continue to the advocacy and awareness we began with Tank… we hope you will continue this journey with us in loving memory of our beloved boy 🫶

Every jump has a cost. Every landing takes a toll. And every working dog eventually feels the years of service. 🐾💔

When you watch this video, you probably see an incredible dog doing what he was trained to do.

But I see something different.

I see the hundreds, if not thousands, of jumps, climbs, sprints, and physically demanding tasks we asked of him throughout his career.

And he did them. Every single time. Without hesitation.

What people don’t always realize is the toll these years of service can take on their bodies. The repeated impact on their joints, muscles, and overall health doesn’t simply disappear when they retire.

And the hardest part? They can’t tell us when something hurts.

Retirement doesn’t erase the physical sacrifices they made. Many working dogs face arthritis, mobility issues, chronic pain, and expensive medical needs as they age.

These dogs gave us their best years. Protecting us, serving our communities, and doing everything we asked of them.

The least we can do is give them the retirement they deserve.

Jax gave me everything he had during our years working together.

Now it’s my turn to give him everything he deserves. ❤️

They served us. Now it’s our turn to serve them. 🐾💙

Please share this video. Their service may have ended, but our responsibility to them hasn’t.

50 YEARS OF SECRET SERVICE K9 🇺🇸

The U.S. Secret Service canine program began in 1976. Fifty years later, K9 teams remain part of the agency’s protective mission.

Working Dog Magazine has some history here, too. We launched on Inauguration Day, January 20, 2017, and Issue 1 opened at the White House with our feature on the Secret Service canine program, including K9 Hurricane and his handler, Marshall.

Fifty years for them. Nearly ten for us. Worth pulling from the archive.
