💦 I did it! Conquering fears (even small steps) is so empowering.

🍁Wild Rise: Rituals of Renewal is created by women, for women. It’s a retreat filled with sauna, cold immersion, art, play, and nature. @wildriceretreat was the perfect location for the first one!

@jenveralle - @belu.photography and @kada_creative curated a space that felt Comfortable, Safe, Vibrant, Inspiring, and Educational.

The Oct 16-18 weekend will be an opportunity for wonder, self-discovery, and connection. After sauna, cold plunge, and nature walks, explore the playful nature of art and craft through painting, creative projects, and embellishing sauna hats. Drawing on combined experiences throughout the weekend, Kada will encourage and guide creativity through a variety of mediums. This will be a low pressure, non outcome based activity.

Backstory on Kada:
Kada Goalen is a muralist and artist with over 20 years of experience transforming spaces into works of art. From large-scale commercial murals to private clients and community installations, Kada pairs her knowledge and experience with community wisdom and client goals to bring their vision to life. She founded @kada_creative on a simple conviction: art is for everyone, beauty belongs everywhere, and color has the power to transform our world.

For Kada, art isn’t precious, and it’s not reserved for galleries or trained professionals. Art is for everyone! It opens us to our inherent creativity. It quiets the mind. It feeds the soul. Meet Belén Fleming, your cold immersion guide for Wild Rise: Rituals of Renewal @wildriceretreat 🧊

In nature, getting small is how we rise 🔥

Inspired by Dacher Keltner’s research on awe, Belén will guide us through standing before something as vast as Lake Superior and letting the ego quiet. Everywhere else, women are told to get small. Here, it’s how we rise.

Backstory on Belén:
Belén Fleming pairs decades of visual storytelling as a commercial photographer with her love for sauna, community, and nature. Belén and Wild Rise founder @jenveralle met at @modernwellco circa 2018, and have been on an entrepreneurial and creative journey, and more recently over the past years: a sauna journey.

Belén brings the same intuition and playfulness that shape her photography to her sauna sessions. A @Reviveryco certified guide, she blends guided visualization, gentle breathwork, and meditation with communal sharing, creating spaces where participants feel seen, heard, and safe.

She believes the deliberate dance between hot and cold forges connections, with ourselves and each other, that resonate long after the löyly (sauna steam) has lifted.

The space is a celebration of Minnesota’s people, its makers, and the community that makes this state so special.

The more I learned about it, the more I fell in love with the thoughtfulness behind every detail.

From northern Minnesota forest sounds playing in the relaxation room, to Minnesota-made furniture, custom fragrances, murals by local artists, saunas built by Minnesota craftsmen, even down to the locker numbers which were hand stamped by a local MN maker and the lockers were designed with our bulky winter coats and snowy boots in mind.

This isn’t a Scandinavian or a K-spa. It’s a Minnesota spa, through and through🤍

Even the massive 50-person sauna, with its individually curved wooden ceiling beams designed to mimic moving water, is a work of art.

And behind it all, three Minneapolis friends who wanted to create a space where people could slow down, connect, and enjoy something together.

Wild Rise: Rituals of Renewal @wildriceretreat in Bayfield, WI, on the shores of Lake Superior, is coming up Oct 16-18.

This place I have returned to time and time again over the past years is a place of healing, restoration, and reclaiming intuitive energy that can often be lost in the day-to-day.

Myself, and co-hosts @belu.photography and @kada_creative, are so looking forward to welcoming all the women who said yes to this experience.

There’s always room on the bench for one more, as any culturally aware sauna enthusiast would say. In that spirit, aka the spirit of the sauna: löyly, there is room for one more at our retreat. Speak it, claim it if it is yours🔥

What a weekend!

FinnFest USA began with meeting Minea Lindqvist Herwitz (@finlandiafoundationnational) to discuss growth and sustainability in our industry, and how we are all in a unique position to shape it as it is happening.

In that same vein, I caught @robertgstrand talk about Nordic Capitalism, in which he detailed Goals for Sustainable Development, the difference between “me” v.s. “we” capitalism, and had the whole audience thinking critically about what kind of society we want to build.

Thanks to Lisa Steinmann (@badsaunagoodstories), I got to talk on a panel about Sauna Wellness: Tradition and Evolution with Nell Rueckl (@watershedmpls ), Kathleen Matalamaki, Karen Rue (@saunamekko) & Gloria Nash (@saunasynergy). We discussed traditional sauna wellness practices and what we are seeing in the market today — a convergence of social wellness, tech, healthcare, beauty, hospitality & retail with bathing as the orchestration layer and connecting thread.

Finally, I was thrilled to partner with @portalthermaculture to host the first Social Wellness Salon, where we gathered practitioners, scholars, entrepreneurs, executives and creatives to think out loud about what it means to design for belonging and human connection. This interdisciplinary conversation was rich and filled with new insights, lived experience and professional expertise. Coming into this week with lots of fresh energy and new ideas!
