🖤 At its heart, Not So Little Dancer is a piece I choreographed to challenge the idea of dancers as merely beautiful, delicate or (dare I say) decorative figures. Instead, it presents dancers as complex human beings whose artistry requires strength, athleticism, intelligence and a constant pursuit of perfection. Through the choreography, I use some of the world’s most famous sculptures to bring these different aspects of a dancer’s artistry to life.

This piece is best viewed on my YouTube channel (same name!) as it was filmed in landscape, and I’d really encourage you to watch it there to experience the full scope of the choreography as I intended.

The first time I filmed this piece in full costume was in Paris in June 2026. I chose Paris because both Claude Debussy, whose music accompanies the choreography, and Edgar Degas, whose Little Dancer inspired the work, were French. It’s also one of my favourite cities in the world!

But I wanted to film it again here in London because this is my home. It’s the city where I’m constantly surrounded by art and where I continue to find inspiration for my own work.

I hope that when you watch this piece and take in the commentary, you’ll see a little more than just a dancer moving to music. I hope you’ll see the strength, the thought and the humanity behind the art ❤️

And don’t forget to watch the full landscape version on my YouTube channel, repost this video and share it with a friend 🧑🏾‍🩰

I realise I clap when I talk... a lot.

🎟️ You don’t need to wait until December to book for my Nutcracker. In fact, booking now is one of the biggest ways you can help make this production a success. I cannot stress enough how much your early bookings mean to me 🥹

As an independent artist, putting on a production of this scale is an enormous financial undertaking, and unlike larger companies, I don’t have the same financial backing.

❤️ Every early booking makes a difference. It helps me cover production costs and plan with a little more financial security to make the show even bigger and better.
🩰 I’m trying to make ballet more accessible. That means keeping ticket prices as affordable as possible, while still delivering a beautiful, professional production.
🌍 You can support from anywhere in the world! The show will be streamed globally on YouTube, with 14 days to catch up - but this is also ticketed so only those with tickets will receive the private link to watch live or catch up and (and you can watch over and over and over again!)

I know December can be an expensive time of year and seems far away - I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has already booked. If you’ve been thinking about joining us, I really hope you’ll consider booking today. Comment DISCOUNT and I’ll send you an exclusive discount as a thank you for booking early!

Thank you for helping me continue to create ballet that welcomes everyone. It genuinely means more than you know ❤️

Ballet has European origins. But does that mean it belongs exclusively to Europeans?

It’s worth asking why this cultural dance form was able to travel around the world and eventually be treated as a universal art form.

This is the part that people are scared to talk about.

European colonisation suppressed and sometimes destroyed other cultures.

#ballet

Dance traditions absolutely travelled, survived and transformed but many were not given the same institutions, money, theatres, schools and cultural authority as European art forms.

The difference was who had the power to decide what counted as art.

Ballet has European origins, but it does not belong exclusively to Europe.

When Black dancers put on pointe shoes, they aren’t pretending to be European.

They are participating in an art form that has spent centuries travelling beyond the place it began.

But somehow… we’re still expected to dress our feet as though ballet never travelled.

Let that sink in.

There is a reason for that. It creates the illusion of an uninterrupted line. Leg → ankle → foot → pointe shoe.

A brown pointe shoe does not make ballet less classical.

For Tutu Tuesday this week, I’m sharing a moment from quite a long time ago, back in 2023 when I was in Sydney, Australia! 🇦🇺🩰

Looking back at this video now, I almost feel like I’m watching a completely different person. It’s strange how you can look back at yourself from just a few years ago and see so many things differently. I’d like to think that since then I’ve grown in both confidence and technique, and although there are certainly things I would do differently if I were dancing this today, it’s still one of my favourite memories and one I wanted to share with you all.

I remember dancing outside the Sydney Opera House when a group of people who were waiting to go inside to see the opera stopped to watch me. They asked if I could dance something for them before they went in, and so I decided to perform Odette’s entrance from Swan Lake, also known as the White Swan.

There’s something really special about moments like this. No stage, no real costumes, no lighting, just me, my pointe shoes and a group of complete strangers.

I think sometimes we can be so focused on improving and looking at all the things we haven’t quite mastered yet that we forget to appreciate the moments we’ve already had along the way. I can look at this video and pick apart my technique, but I can also look at it and remember just how happy I was to be dancing there in that moment.

And I think that’s worth remembering too. Ballet doesn’t always have to be perfect to be beautiful or meaningful, and some of my favourite memories of dancing have happened in the most unexpected places 🤍

Photographing the inspirational @kadeem.enpointe as he talks to all the children at Southover School.
You may have seen Kadeem performing in public urban spaces en pointe and in tutus. I love the way he is making ballet accessible for all. A pleasure to meet you, Kadeem.
