#TBT the Best ‘Throw Back Thursday’ eva was on a Thursday in February back in 2024 when my film @thesoundshesawfilm was screened in my Dream Venue / top of my museum wishlist at the National Portrait Gallery- Smithsonian @nationalportraitgallery surrounded by my fabulous Howard University Bison sisters: the incomparable @rhea_combs the Dir of Curatorial Affairs, leading our talkback, the amazing photographer @waheedpix featured in the film with the screening & discussion produced by @kaiablack !!!

When I first thought about the film’s Museum run, I knew it had to be at the National Portrait Gallery because it was the very first film about Black women contemporary photographers discussing the notion of having Agency and controlling the narrative through their specific lens, image by delicious image.

It was the perfect place to make a statement, a proclamation, a manifesto! And hold all the space! Plus the screening was on my mommy‘s birthday! Big Swoon!

I’m forever, grateful for the opportunity to screen, to speak about the critical importance and necessity of agency, especially now and to hold sacred space. What a dream! ✨🎉✨

We did it! 😅

Thank you SO so much to everyone who came to the Opening Reception and Artist Talk for Through the Veil: Currents of the Unseen by Rashad Ali Muhammad at Eaton Hotel in DC. I’m beyond grateful for this community.

It was a night filled with uplift, insight, vulnerability, fun, and foolishness. Our “holistic creative” Rashad even designed the specialty drinks and playlist for the occasion… of course he did.

But absolutely none of it would’ve been possible without the loving support and tireless tasking of queen Nina (Eaton’s Director of Culture) and her team—shout out to Rodney and the engineering crew for all your help and Kalyne and The Kopi Room for capturing the event.

The exhibition will be up through February so stay tuned for exciting programs to come!

I am so inspired by my village and when I get to partner with a friend and fellow curator on a special project, I am energized! And trust me, I needed the energy yesterday for a whirlwind day of art programming! 😅

First up, thanks to @alissa_maru and @masonexhibitions for joining me to plan a Spring Art Walk between my exhibition #solaceandsisterhood @mocaarlington and a sneak peak at the captivating new exhibition "A Coser Look: Conflicted Art from Ukraine" at Mason Exhibitions. We led a small group on a curator Ied tour and then had some delicious brunch snacks. A perfect way to spend a rainy Saturday! ☔
