Dry fit. It's always fun to put parts on a raw frame.

650b x 48 with fenders and 27.5 x 2.2???? without. Pick your vibe.

We never understood why water bottles should cost $12, $15 or even $20. We’ve kept ours at $10 for almost a decade now, and we’re committed to doing that as long as we can. It’s only a small thing.

Keeping our prices as low as we can is one of our contributions to keeping cycling affordable. The other is (obviously) making our products last as long as possible. Because giving up performance in search of cost savings isn’t really an option.

Is there a Strava KOM from the MADE Show to the train station? So much fun meeting up with old friends and making new ones that I almost missed my train back to Seattle.

Why’s the bike so dusty? Rode down with @beccabook via Loowit (Mount St. Helens), Ape Canyon and Bridge of the Gods. What a fun weekend!

We don’t use AI. Not in our writing. Not in our photos. Not in our product development. And not in our customer service. We aren’t against AI, we just don’t find it useful.

We use technology where it makes sense, but we never forget our goal: to create memorable experiences. AI would steer us toward the middle-of-the-road, instead of helping us create things that are genuinely new and exciting.

Bill’s rinko randonneur heads down the road this afternoon. Lots of fun features on this one from the integrated lighting system to the Nivex/Herse drivetrain and the easily removable lowrider rack and so much more!

The antithesis of a Tour de France bike? Jan’s Rene Herse for the Oregon Cascades Volcanic Arc 400 features analog shifting instead of electronic derailleurs. Rim brakes instead of discs. A steel frame with round tubes instead of wind-tunnel-shaped carbon. And then there’s the wheel size: At a time when the industry is pushing ’bigger is better,‘ Jan unapologetically runs 26“ wheels.

A nostalgic choice? Not at all. It’s simply an alternative approach to building the fastest bike for ultra-long, unsupported, mixed-surface rides. Whether it’s setting FKTs (Fastest Known Times) on bikepacking routes or competing in Unbound XL, the bike has shown that thinking outside the box can work really well.

Today in the RH Journal, Jan explains the thinking behind this unconventional bike—and how it performed on the (gravel) road. (Link in bio.)

Bike is dirty, rider is tired, mission accomplished! The new FKT for the Oregon Cascades Volcanic Arc 400 is 41:13 hours—for 419 miles and 31,500 ft of climbing—more than 8 hours off the old time.

The best part? Meeting friends in Portland. From the reader who came out in the middle of the night (with a picnic!) to my friend Jordan who I‘d missed last time: I love solo rides because they make me appreciate this wonderful community all the more.

Story is now live in the RH Journal (link in bio).

Inspired by @meaghanhackinen‘s incredible ride in the Tour Divide, I decided to head out for my own adventure. Picked up breakfast at @macrinabakery on the way to the station. Stuffed it into (onto?) my rando bag for the few blocks across downtown. Now on the train south…
