A couple weeks back I ran from Orsières in Switzerland to Chamonix in France. 60k, 3500m+. My longest race to date, both in distance and time on feet.

I was nervous going in to the race, unsure how I would do. It started hot and fast, up to Champex-Lac, and people were racing past me. I remember thinking, ”what am I doing here, who am I kidding, I’m not good enough”.
Little by little, I found my pace, and myself. I climbed well, passing people and cheered the same people when the flew past me on the downhills. I made trail friends in the middle of a cow fight. Saw my bestest team @schtaeker @mrmaanx @beckaforsberg with bells and signs in Trient. I stopped to pet dogs and to take in the view. I talked to a lovely Kiwi who was more scared of heights than me at a technical section of Chalet des Grands, and could help her through a scary bit. That could have been me, just some years ago.
At Vallorcine TC, we passed the sweepers getting ready, but they said not to worry, we had lots of time. Nextdoors, the medic tent was full of overheated runners. I’m still okay, I told myself.
Descending into Argentière, sugar fatigue and nausea hit. Seeing my team again along with broth and sparkling water made for a great reset. Headlights on for the last bit. I didn’t rush, I savoured it - feeling like I would actually make it all the way.
I crossed the finishline with new brilliant trail buddy @samnoisy , with my team and lovely Trail Talk friends cheering. It took me 13,5 hours.

Some time after the race, an innocent comment made me feel like my performance was quite bad, based on the time I did. It got to me more than I wanted to. It brought back the ”I’m not good enough to be here”. Along with the lowest ITRA score to date, it brought me down.
But looking back, I raced exactly how I like to run. I love to move, to be in the moment (and not in my head for once!), to take in the beautiful nature, to make friends, to finish smiling. And I did just that. So, I’m proud of my go at OCC. I know my ”why”. Going forward, I’ll try to cherish it even more. 💙

Massive thanks to everyone who put a silver lining on that day 🌻🥰
