There’s a special kind of magic that happens when writers gather 🙂‍↕️ We wrapped up the PREE Writing Studio a little over a week ago, but I’m still relishing all it was and all that came from it.

Last year as a participant, this studio was pivotal in my decision to fully commit to my writing. This year as an organizer, it was a lot of work but deeply fulfilling to see writers from all over the world gather here in Jamaica to develop our craft and establish lifelong connections that will shape our writing journeys for years to come.

Thank you to our wonderful tutors @marlonjameswriter, @jallenpaisant, @gaiutra, @rolandwatson_grant, @graftonmikie, @desanticarole, and session leaders @gloria.kiconco, @jetvgc, @_shaniakilah. Thank you @staceyannchin for hosting us so heartily at @kindredontherock. I am in awe of you all and grateful you were all part of this!

Thank you to all the participants for bringing your positive energy and incredible talents 🤩 You all made this week unforgettable and I’m excited to see where you all go from here.

Big up to the main organizing team who worked hard behind the scenes to make this studio a major success: @anniepaulish, @_kerrychen, and for the help of @sarashabaka, @liccorish, and Kerry-Coy Virtue. Thank you to our partners @deptlitsinenglish for the support and @princeclausfund for the funding to make this all possible.

WE DID IT! 💃🏽 #PWS2025

One week later and the Calabash tabanca is hitting 🥲

What better way to celebrate the end of my first MFA semester than @calabashfestival: the best likkle festival, in the best likkle district, in the best likkle parish, in the best likkle country!

From getting to witness and meet authors whose work has shaped my own, to late night craft chats with @bydanafletcher + @kam.ziii, to getting to read on the open mic segment again, Calabash never fails to fill my cup.

Big up to @kwame.dawes, @justinehenzell, and team for creating this special space 🙌

& ty to @scribe.rm for capturing my open mic moment ☺️

2025 Traditional Mas 🇹🇹
Words from @sadebudhlall -
Seated atop a donkey, the Soumayree takes form as Mother Durga, the Hindu
goddess of protection and justice, invoked to confront war, oppression, and restore balance.

This is a preenactment. Durga rides as an ally in the resistance, moving alongside the people of Palestine as they reclaim their
sovereignty, walking towards a
future free from war, displacement, and occupation.

In her left hand, she carries a bouquet of red poppies, the
national flower of Palestine, reminding us that even in devastation, the resilience of the
human spirit refuses to wither.

In her right hand, she raises the
Palestinian flag. It is the emblem
of a people's unbroken will, their right to ancestral homeland, and
their right to reclaim their history.

In Gaza, where fuel is scarce,
malnourished donkeys replace
ambulances, carrying life-saving
supplies and the wounded
through war's devastation. Here,
the donkey stands restored-
adorned, healthy, and free - a
vision of a future where neither
people nor animals are forced to carry the weight of war but live with dignity and liberation.

This is an act of co-creative
resistance, where spiritual beliefs, traditions, and Carnival performance become a unified
voice for Palestinian struggle.

The Soumayree becomes a living, breathing call to action-a reminder that the pulse of
liberation beats within all of us;
and that art, culture, and solidarity can be powerful forces in the pursuit of a more just world. 🇵🇸
