Are there any pieces of advice you wish you had listened to?
•
“If you truly value that relationship that you have with your parents you have to kind of endure them to have a short term discomfort with you having a different career path. Because if not you're going to have this long term term resentment towards your parents.”

Can you describe a moment you were proud of yourself?
•
“I think in my profession and in my personal life I’ve had a lot of downfalls, I’ve had a lot of successes and I think my proudest moment is finally being able to acknowledge all the work I’ve put into being able to see the fruits of my labor. I’m a teacher, so it’s not easy to be cussed at and belittled by adults and children each and every day but I’m really proud of being able to stay in it year after year, day after day to see students who are beyond my classroom you know, one year, two years, 3, 4,5,6 7, 8 9 years later coming back and what they remember from my classroom.”
•
She said that she recently was invited to the graduation of a former student from Harvard. It was one of those moments that reinforced the impact teachers can have on students.
•
“I was like ‘wow, okay you want me to give me one your like four tickets?’” She said. “I’m very proud I’ve been able to power through it and get the reward of having an impact even years later.”

A wife and husband duo
•
Photo 1: “What are you excited about right now?”
••
Getting food after this! I’m taking time to eat out more. I eat out maybe twice a year? Its because I’m a chef, I like to make presentations, but now I’m learning to enjoy spending time with the people I’m with instead of it being just about the food. (He then excitedly showed me photos of meal he’s made, including a fancy breakfast for his wife that morning.)
•
Photo 2: “What is a habit you’re working on changing?”
••
Patience, I’m so impatient and I’m working on it. You know like earlier we were walking behind some people and instead of getting annoyed I was just patient.
•
“Is there anything else you’re working on?”
••
To stop being so worried. I worry a lot so I’m trying to stop . . Just trying to breath more.

Me: “So your headband caught my eye and I feel like you’d both have interesting answers to these questions.” Never underestimate the power of quirky accessories.
•
We asked this woman and her friend what is something they wish they knew 5 years ago and a lesson they know now. She said at that time she had just graduated college and wasn’t sure what was going to happen. She wish she knew that things would work out how they’re meant to be.
•
Her friend told us that five years ago she immigrated to the U.S. from China and a lesson she learned is that not everyone is going to like you and you can’t do anything about it but be okay with it. I then asked her if America felt like home yet - she said that after a few years it does feel like a home of sorts. #acreativedc @acreativedc #ownyourstories

The Question:”What makes you feel like a child again?”
The Answer: “Honestly, taking shrooms. I mean I feel like I’m 5 years old and everything.”

You can imagine this person didnt want a photo of them for the world to see but wanted to share this quote. More to come 🥂enjoy us + drums until then. #acreativedc @acreativedc
