”Go relax at the spa, we’ll sort the food.”

That’s what the restaurant manager at @kamphotel said last night, after overhearing a passing comment between me and my partner in the lobby.
I was craving tartare and fries but didn’t feel like going to the proper restaurant, knowing full well the spa cafe only serves clean, healthy dishes. It wasn’t a request to anyone.

I spent years running wellness at a luxury hotel, so I know exactly what that sentence costs. Two kitchens. Two teams. A full restaurant on a Wednesday evening. Someone had to walk it over, coordinate the timing and absorb the disruption, for a guest who hadn’t complained about anything.

Twenty minutes later she brought the food herself. Tartare next to the healthy bowl, with a glass of bubbles.
Then she noticed my book: Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidara (probably my 4th time reading it). She told us she’d just finished it.

The whole premise of that book is that the unnecessary gestures are the ones people remember. Not the product, not the process. The moment someone decided to make your experience better when nothing obliged them to.
It costs very little. It’s almost impossible to systemise. And it’s the reason people keep coming back to certain places, and the reason I’m writing about it now.

Thank you @kamphotel for going above and beyond, you made our evening 🤎

Where’s the last place someone did something like this for you?

Kävin (taas) uudistuneessa Kämp Spassa. 🥰
