Now on Netflix! I spent many hours in the studio, with fabulous actors all around, doing something a bit different - dubbing the wacky and heartfelt Gokusen Season 1 (2002) into English for the first time. Possibly the most challenging show I've ever worked on! Thank you to @dubbing_brothers_usa for production, and @tetsumash for some scripts early on the series. Shout-outs to all the fantastic actors who worked with me for many hours in the booth to help bring this to fruition.

Friends, in one month we will be back at Trópico de Nopal for our roda de samba.
Old faces. New faces. A few surprise guests. Songs you remember, and some you haven’t heard.
This isn’t a show. It’s a reunion. Bring your voice, bring your dancing feet, bring whoever you love that loves samba too.
.
.
“Sing, sing, my people!
Chase the sadness away
Sing strong and sing out loud
And life will get better each day!”

🍷🍺 Wine & beer on hand
🎟️ $20 at the door · all ages

See you in the roda!

Friends... It's been a long time...
.
Three years ago, our circle was silenced.
Some things you don't plan to pause, they just happen, and time moves differently than you expect. But samba has a way of pulling people back together, and this Labor Day, we're finally ready to sit in the circle again.
For over a decade, @tropicodenopal hosted our rodas de samba — musicians facing each other, the audience wrapped around us, no stage or barriers. Just rhythm, dance, and the kind of music that only exists when people play it together, musician and audience, at the same time.
We've missed this. We've missed each other. And we carry with us everyone who ever sat in that circle with us — some here with us still, some only in memory, all of them part of why this music still means so much.
This year, we come back not quite the same as we left, but with the same spirit. Roots samba, played the traditional way. A circle, unbroken.

The first six episodes of the GOLD LAND English dub are out now on Hulu and Disney+! A high-stakes thriller about an ordinary woman who comes into possession of a smuggling ring’s gold bars. Had so much fun co-directing alongside the lovely and talented @frananagrams, and I’m super proud of our incredible cast💛 @nyavpost #disneyplus #Hulu #kdrama #goldland #골드랜드

Hey everyone! Mike and Dave here, the other half of Baila Nova! In case our last post wasn't clear, we are still performing around LA and LA County!

Throughout the nearly 2 decades that Baila Nova has been performing, we have met some amazing musicians and had them fill in for one or two of us as schedule conflicts popped up and we've been so fortunate to meet such amazing people, players, and artists. With L&T now living in Spain, we obviously won't be able to perform as classic Baila Nova as often, but we look forward to our reunions. In the mean time, Dave and I are still currently booking both public and private events, utilizing our collective of these amazing musicians that we've met through the years. Pictured above has at least one familiar face from our video series "Live from Seahorse Studios" - Simon Huber on Bass! We also have had the pleasure of playing with Kana Shimanuki who is half Brazilian and half Japanese. She is an amazing singer with her own interpretations of our classic repertoire! We played the last 2 weeks at Sushi Samba (PUBLIC) and might be working out a residency with them to play there regularly so stay tuned! Even though Baila Nova has entered a new phase, we are all excited to maintain our amazing videos and recordings together as the classic quartet, while performing live with some new and varying faces and voices. We hope you'll all enjoy this new journey with us!

Info: Made a small anime voice comparison compilation video between the Japanese and English voices of Haruno Akiyama (Japanese: 秋山春乃) from the anime adaptation of "Mono". 🤍

I don't know when or where exactly her birthday officially is (alongside Sakurako Shikishima), but it's around this month (April). Anyway, enjoy, and happy belated birthday to her. 🎂

English voice: @kanashimanuki (Kana Shimanuki)

Japanese: Reina Ueda

Clips from episode 1: "mono Trip".
