Untangler: Worlds Reimagined

It started with a question: what are the unbuilt bridges that contribute to AI bias on African culture?

The research found the answer in the data, the need to question the models and the datasets they are trained on, but how do we keep the essence of our data in local languages without its meaning lost in translation?

Yoruba tonal diacritics are lost to bad encoding, archives never digitised, identities flattened by what AI was never taught. So fixes were built: ODU Keyboard, a community dataset, an offline Museum Companion, and The Griot — a voice for the archive.

None of this happened alone. Research support from @ramona.vangansbeke / Technical guidance from @alexandre.saunier and @kaosbeat.

Developed with @galleryofcodehq (Abuja) and @gluon_bxl (Brussels), under the S+T+ARTS Afropean Intelligence Residency.

Nominated for the @startseu Prize 2026 by Ars Electronica, it'll be exhibited in Abuja starting on 26th of June.

A special thank you to every individual and small groups that have contributed to this dream project. This is the credits!

Looking back at #Wintercircuit and already feeling like doing it all over again. Five days of art, music and technology that we’ll be thinking about for a while.

Thank you to everyone who made it electric. 🙏

Spent a day in #Ghent as a tourist in my birth city 💖 // sometimes I can be a hermit. I do something called nesting quite a bit where I clean my entire home and it gets too comfortable and wonderful for me to leave. So a nice city outing where I hop on a rideshare bike and appreciate the history of the place I call home, along with the nature and the people, lifts my spirits, gives me hope, and inspires my art. It’s like that same feeling I get when I walk out of an incredible movie, or after I visit a park with beautiful views, or after I go and visit the sea. Ghent is like an unstoppable force to me. it inspires awe.joy.it borders on a religious experience each time which is why I don’t make a habit of it. I love this city.

it’s not beautiful in the traditional sense it’s not perfect, but it’s mine, and it can be yours too. To me, it is the most beautiful place on earth. and it has been, for the longest time.
