THE ONE I LOVE AND THE FREEDOM ROAD

lyrics 🖤
tires turning on a hot highway in the georgia night
my passenger keeps drinking in the sky
i don’t know if jesus is coming back
but the one i love and the freedom road are Black

i like it when her hair falls in my face
i like the way her collarbones taste
she could knock you over with her hands behind her back
the one i love and the freedom road are Black

you can forgive them all you want
but will it ever be enough?

you shouldn’t take her love in little sips
your body’s still all tangled from the ships
and you’ll never get your freedom if you never move your hips
the one i love and the freedom road are Black

go on and forgive them all you want
like it’ll ever be enough
but it’ll never be enough

now, jericho is unrelenting stone
my sister kaia has a microphone
now the king and all his horses are gonna welcome the attack
the one i love and the freedom road are Black

who told you we’d get to pick the fight?
who told you we’d make it out alive?
it’s the season of rebellion in the outlaws’ almanac
the one i love and the freedom road
the one i love and the freedom road are Black

tires turning on the hot highway in the georgia night
my passenger still drinking in the sky
i’ll never get to know her if i’m living in the past
the one i love
the one i love
the one i love and the freedom road are Black

Here’s just some of the awesome bills that I was privileged to book that included my dear friend @merlejagger_guitar . We spent many hours nerding out on gear, bitching about the world, and laughing our asses off while having a smoke together. One of the most electrifying and passionate musicians I’ve had the pleasure of knowing. The perfect balance of sweetheart and curmudgeon. And one of the pioneers and original champions of the modern LA country music scene. Seeing all the love from so many people the last day has really showed me how much of an impact he really had with his life and his music. An incredible guitar player and an even more incredible man. I’m only happy that you’re not in any more pain brother. Show them angels up there some licks.

And also enjoy the video of one of the last times he played the Silverlake lounge 🎸🎸🎸🔥🔥🔥

Outlaws’ Almanac is one of @bandcamp Daily’s best new country albums!! We love Bandcamp, the home of indie musicians without bullshit, a beacon of good work. And we love being written up alongside masterful musicians like @marisaandersonmusic and @jrmillerwv 🧡 thank you all for listening to this record. Long live the underground 🖤

Here I was beginning to that nothing exciting happens in Georgia… then the other day I got a text from @nikkilane77 letting me know that her and our friend @kapalilong we’re rolling into Savannah to play a show. It was really nice to get out of the house and even cooler to get to play with some friends on stage again!
