GOG is a name that may not immediately tell you what the film is about, but GOG is definitely the right word for this fast-paced creature feature set on a boat (and in the lake water surrounding it). Director Kara Grace Miller @karagmiller first showed up on our radar as the producer of Talia Shea Levin's @taliashea23 short surreal horror fantasy MAKE ME A PIZZA @thepizzamovie, one of our 2024 Official Selections. Kara was subsequently chosen for the 2026 Sundance Institute Feature Film Producers Lab to develop a feature-length version of the movie. GOG is their new film as director, and we are pleased to have them back as an alumnus of our competition! GOG is best described as a highly regional, microbudget lake-monster Americana movie with a satirical edge. Five people who have moved to Vermont, dismissively called “Flatlanders” by native Vermonters, take a boat onto Lake Memphremagog for what they expect to be an idyllic day. Unfortunately, the lake’s oldest resident, affectionaly referred to as "Gog" by the locals, has other plans. You can watch GOG at the LIVE events on August 28 in Los Angeles, California at the Los Feliz 3 Theater @losfelizcinema with the American Cinematheque @am_cinematheque or in New York City at the Brooklyn Nitehawk Cinema Williamsburg @nitehawkcinema on September 9 with the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival @brooklynhorrorfest. Miller will be at the NEW YORK event in person for a question and answer session led by Tori Potenza @theneonbanshee after the films screen, alonside GOG producer and actress Danica Lee Clauser @danicaleeclauser. The film will also be on SHUDDER @shudder October 15 - November 13, 2026 as part of our streaming film festival. The 2026 Etheria Film Festival is screening LIVE on August 28 at 7pm at the Los Feliz 3 Theater courtesy of the American Cinematheque! Join us for this fabulous evening of the BEST new short horror and fantasy films of the year (oh and they happen to be directed by women) with filmmakers in attendance! First, we'll screen the secret world premieres of two trailers for feature films directed by some VERY recognizable and beloved women in horror. You won't want to miss these! Then, we'll screen 8 short films that will blow your fucking mind they're so good. Then, we'll have the directors there in person for a question and answer session following the screening! We'll have Sandra Powers (BESTIAS DE LA MUERTE), Kara Grace Miller (GOG), Christianne Hedtke (SUPERCONSCIOUS), Minnie Scheeden (VISITORS), Kelsey Bollig (THE BONES EXIST), and Alexandra Hayden (WALL UDDER) live to talk about their amazing films.
