Thank you everyone for an awesome 2021! We hosted 16 art shows, worked with over 20 artists, and sold 180 pieces of art that varied between $50- $4000! (plus a ton a ton tshirts, stickers, prints and “littles” under $50) We coordinated our first outdoor art market this year, we worked with 2 different non profit neighbors on some really great charity events, got nominated for @pghcitypaper “Best of”, and met some of the most amazing people! Thank you to all the artists who put in 💯 this year and partnered with us! @allstarphotos412 @krcopeart @linstant_art @zeal_eva @coo_chainz @naytrece @bobfreyer @beaniepaints @mr.high_allyear @dri1pp @latikaann @jeff_bertrand Kevin JohnGraham @evrumble @purple_room_fine_art @franssim_stuffs @evolfran @mikehennyt @revrocket_likes_people @thatlittlebirdc.ann @ickyvicky_sideshow @m_dot_eazywider @mellowthreatvisuals @oldsoul_bizcuit @batboidom @daveadroit @twistoflimey @str8beautify @localplague @valkyriewilliams @digital_jesus @francie_niznik Lookout 2022!! #pittsburghart #pittsburghartist #pghart #pgharts #pghartist #pghartgallery #pghevents #buylocal #buylocalart #heresto2022

Sometimes I feel like I have the world on my shoulders. In sparse moments of wisdom, that weight sobers me to the proportionality of all I have to be thankful for. The term “progress” can be a loaded gun— primed with obsession, inauthenticity, and the ever-present threat of losing the plot. But there are moments when you feel progress happening, even when you’re in the thick of it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The idea for Body Sound came out of the literal first conversation that James, Kara, and I ever had together on May 7, 2021. By June 29, we hosted out first mixed media art event in a forgotten art gallery in Garfield with no air conditioning and no discernible wiring system. Yesterday night, we hosted our second Body Sound event. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For us, progress feels like, looks like, acts like the following: -Bringing the event into a space that celebrates Black American Music and art -Bringing in multiple artists who commit as readily to their community as they do to their art -Getting money into the pockets of participating musicians -Welcoming crowds that bridge wider generation gaps -AIR CONDITIONING (it might seem silly, but it’s still an improvement that we all noticed) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We have so much more to say. We have so much more growing to do. And when we’re back, we’ll be bigger and better than ever. I know this to be true because we’ve already done it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ PS: swipe to see @cliffbarnesmusic throwing some serious Jimmy Smith vibes

From rehearsal to setup, we’re just as wound up about Body Sound as the rest of you! For drummer James Johnson III, visual artist Kara Bialecki, and myself, there’s no chill till the last beat of our mixed media art event that combines live music, live painting, and performed poetry. Join us on August 29 at the Afro-American Institute. Doors open at 5:00PM. More info at the Eventbrite link in my bio! Meal tickets will also be available for purchase at the event. #music #concert #performance #jazz #rnb #painting #poetry

#appreciationpost Have you ever had a passion project? Some idea that refuses to remain quiet? The nagging feeling that what you’re doing will amount to some good in the world? When James, Kara, and I first started discussing the Body Sound experiment, it just seemed like another cool idea to break up monotony of the Pittsburgh cultural experience. I have gained so much from this project— closer relationships with my collaborators, new friendships, and a greater understanding of the place within all of us that demands creation. The fact that we were able to return to present a second mixed media art event (all while growing the program in two short months) is an unbelievable gift that won’t take for granted. I appreciate James and Kara beyond words, acrylic strokes, and musical bridges. I speak for all of us when I say we look forward to sharing this beautiful space with you. 💚 #art #artist #artistsoninstagram #painting #paint #painter #music #musician #musiciansofinstagram #drums #drummer #event #eventplanning

The Body Sound saga continues on August 29! Due to the overwhelming success of the first Body Sound performance, the original curators are coming together again to tell a new story with the help of the community. Join us at the Afro-American Music Institute in Homewood at 6:00PM on August 29 for a more immersive art experience. Artist Kara Bialecki (l’instant) returns for another live paint session. She will share the stage with SPECIAL MUSICAL GUEST Carolyn Perteete as well as James Johnson III, Jeff Grubbs, Jerome Kirkland, and Cliff Barnes. We’re excited to introduce a brand-new spoken word component to this performance. We are also collaborating with local artists to curate a pop-up display, which can be enjoyed before and during the performance. There’s also a rumor floating around that we’ll be featuring a very special food vendor👀 The Afro-American Music Institute is located at 7131 Hamilton Avenue, Pittsburgh, 15208. Cost of admission is $10. Doors open at 5:00. Keep your eyes and ears open for further announcements, behind-the-scenes sneak peaks, and artist spotlights!
