When in Kythera, we visited @karavasbakery and tasted the famous traditional rusks of Kythera (paximadia), along with some more of their delicious treats 😅🙌

Our students were so happy to use their Greek in all these everyday activities and encounters — from the coffee shop and the bakery to the beekeeper in the village.

And this is how you get better at a language: you have to put yourself out there! 💙⚡️ Speak, interact, make mistakes, try again.

Deki, Jana & Pili, you did an amazing job! 🥹🙌

And a special thanks to Peggy who helped us with the video — you’re a star! 💫

Reasons why I have them ⬇️

Greek coffee. Brewed strong but served in a tiny cup, so total caffeine per serving is low. You can have two or three across the morning without frying yourself.

Local honey. Single source, fresher, minimally processed, and traceable, versus blended supermarket honey that’s pooled and heated for shelf life. Real quality difference in flavour and content.

Local watermelon. Ripened in the field at full sugar and water content, not picked early and trucked across a continent. Better taste, better hydration.

Bananas or sugar pre workout. Fast carbs top up blood glucose and prime glycogen for training. Banana adds potassium, straight sugar hits quicker.

Olive oil bread post workout. Clean carbs to refill glycogen after training. The olive oil slows it slightly but it’s solid real food, ideally with protein alongside.

Olive oil. Monounsaturated fat plus polyphenols, anti inflammatory and good for the heart, and it helps you absorb fat soluble vitamins.

Sardines. Omega 3 EPA and DHA, complete protein, calcium and vitamin D from the bones, and natural creatine since it’s stored in animal muscle. Low on the food chain so low in heavy metals.

Carob rusks. Barley based, high fibre, slow digesting. This is what a quality carb actually looks like.

Tzatziki. Built on proper strained Greek yogurt, so more protein and real food value, not “Greek style” which is just thickened regular yogurt.

Two Greek salads a day. Local veg at peak, olive oil, and feta for protein, fat and calcium. Easy micronutrients, just watch the salt from the feta.

Lamb and potatoes. Rich red meat high in iron, zinc, B12, creatine and complete protein, with a better fat profile from pasture raised animals. Potatoes refill the tank.
