That’s a wrap on 24 hours of @Indigenomics NOW 🌎

Perfectly coinciding with the Harvest Moon, the past 24 hours brought together Indigenous voices, wisdom and perspectives from across the world - including Aotearoa New Zealand, Australia, Africa and Canada - around a shared vision for Indigenous economic prosperity.

A huge miigwech to @hesquiaht for inviting me to be part of such an inspiring and powerful global gathering.

When Carol Anne asked me at the beginning of the summit where I saw the intersection between Indigenomics and the work I lead around Indigenous empowerment, healing and well-being, my answer came back to one thing:

We need to be well.

As we have these big conversations about Indigenous economies, prosperity and the heart-centred, Creator-guided visions so many of us are carrying forward, we also have to consider the well-being of the people carrying them.

Because prosperity is about more than financial means.

We can’t talk about wealth, success and prosperity without also considering our mental, emotional, spiritual and physical well-being.

To me, this connects so deeply with one of the core principles of Indigenomics: Life at the Center.

As we wrapped the final hours of the summit this morning, I found myself reflecting on another thread that had become so clear throughout the 24 hours.

Despite our different lands, languages, cultures, practices and ways of knowing, there is so much connecting us.

We are coming together around a shared vision of Indigenous economic prosperity, and around the possibility of building that prosperity in ways that reflect who we are, what we value and what we want to create for the generations coming behind us.

There may be many different expressions of that vision around the world, but these 24 hours were such a powerful reminder of what becomes possible when we come together, share our knowledge and continue imagining what prosperity can look like on our own terms.

Miigwech to everyone who shared their wisdom and contributed to this gathering. I’m leaving feeling deeply inspired 🧡

And throwing in a photo from a cheeky tea date I got to have with @kari.mclay 🫶🏻

Celebrating 3 years of @pvolvevictoria for a day of classes on Hudson House’s beautiful rooftop.

This is the 2nd Annual Move & Mingle, with a market featuring local businesses, (I snagged some cute earrings from @casamaria.jewelry), treats and coffee from @deeranddoughbakery, cupcakes & cake from @oohlalacupcakes_canada cupcakes

Ticket sales for the event raised $1800 for the @victorianativefriendshipcentre 🤲🏽

I had so much fun and probably got tan-lines from the sun beating down on me.

Thank you for the spicy class @samshealthlab - I loved every second of it. Even as I had to laugh and dance my way through.

Congrats on 3 years!

Today marks my very last day as the owner of Tulipe Noire Clothing. I’m not going to lie. It’s hard.

After 21 wonderful years, it is a truly bittersweet day. To be honest, I’ve shed a few tears and I feel a bit wistful, perhaps even a little numb. Closing this chapter feels like both a loss and a celebration. It’s hard to let go of something that has been such a huge part of my life for over two decades.

At the same time, my heart is full of gratitude and pride for everything built here, the incredible community that supported us, and the beautiful connections made along the way. I feel deeply blessed to be passing the torch to someone who will carry the boutique forward into its next chapter. Thank you Bethany Frei

Life is built on these transitions, nothing lasts forever, and that’s okay. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this 21 year journey.

Here’s to honouring where we’ve been, and stepping gracefully into whatever comes next. Tears are nature’s healers. Let them flow.

What an incredible day! 🧡 Our Change With Us Clothing Emporium Fundraiser at the Victoria Native Friendship Centre brought together more than 200 community members, volunteers, donors, leaders, families, and friends, all united in support of Indigenous youth.

Together, we raised $5,200 for youth programs, thanks to donated clothing, food, volunteer time, and the generosity of our amazing community.

Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated, volunteered, shopped, and helped make this day such a success. Special thanks to Ron Rice and the entire VNFC team for believing in this vision.

This was more than a fundraiser. It was community, connection, kindness, and hope in action.

And we’re not done yet! Our goal is to raise $20,000 this summer for our Youth Warriors Program (ages 7–12).

Move With Us

A community-centered yoga fundraiser designed to bring people together through movement, connection, and shared purpose, while raising funds Victoria Native Friendship Centre

VNFC offers over 75 life-changing programs and wrap-around services to urban Indigenous people, supported by a staff of over 200

The word “yoga” itself means to yoke, unite, or join, signifying the merging of individual consciousness with universal consciousness. It represents a state of harmony between mind, body, and spirit, rather than just physical postures. This union aims to overcome the limitations of the ego-self, allowing the practitioner to experience oneness with existence.

Karma yoga is the spiritual path of “selfless action”, designed to achieve spiritual liberation by performing one’s duty without attachment to the results. It involves doing the right thing for its own sake, offering work as a service (seva) rather than working for personal gain or rewards.

So, I wanted to co-host this fundraiser in the best way I could, by gathering a group of like minded individuals to breathe and move together, to loosen their grip on self and widen their lens onto the urban indigenous community.

Together we raised $25k! Wow, I know!

A big thank you to EVERYONE for your support- big or small- you brought this vision to life and it turned out better than I could’ve imagined.

Detailed thank yous in the comments 🤲🏽

A BIG announcement for Tulipe Noire

After more than 20 years of creativity, community, and growth, Tulipe Noire Clothing is officially on the market with Chinook Business Advisory represented by broker Keith MacKenzie.

Tulipe Noire was born from my love of art, fashion, and creativity, and from my desire as a seasoned Social Worker to explore what it truly means to be a social entrepreneur. I wanted to build something that blended contemporary fashion, community connection, philanthropy and purpose.

For over 20 years, I have watched this dream grow into something far greater than I ever imagined. We have raised the bar for contemporary fashion, promoted the arts, supported nonprofit organisations, and stood beside countless women as they stepped into their confidence. I have had the privilege of working with extraordinary staff who have been with me since day one, and I am so proud of what we have built together.

An inspiring day of learning, culture, and community on Salt Spring Island.

This past Saturday, was spent on beautiful Salt Spring Island alongside talented Cowichan Nation knitters, Hatwess and Julie Smith, who joined a gathering of child and family educators and support workers from the Child Care Resource and Referral Centre (CCRR), serving Greater Victoria and the Gulf Islands under the umbrella of Beacon Community Services.

Hatwess and Julie generously shared their knowledge, demonstrating their knitting, speaking about their long relationship with wool, and sharing the history, meaning, and love behind this cultural craft. Their hope, expressed so thoughtfully, is that traditional knitting continues to be honoured and carried forward for many decades to come.

This gathering is part of a Community of Practice “Journey of Wool”, a continuing education initiative for professionals working with children and families, including StrongStart facilitators, Head Start educators, child and family support workers, and primary teachers. Together, they are exploring the history and culture of wool, weaving, felting, and knitting and further considering and applying how these teachings can be brought into early childhood pedagogy in meaningful and creative ways.

I had the opportunity to talk about the Victoria Native Friendship Centre - VNFC’s “Knit with Purpose” social enterprise that represents the Cowichan sweaters, vests etc.

Days like these build bridges between generations, knowledge keepers, educators, and community and help ensure that traditional skills, stories, and values continue to live on through the hands and hearts of those who learn them.

Grateful to everyone who made today so special and also to those who purchased Cowichan knits.
