america was, is, and will always be defined by a simple premise: “we the people”. the three words that begin the united states constitution are in the most complex, beautiful, and important way possible, the best way to explain our nation.
-
during the 2026 state officer summit, WE had the privilege to travel to our nation’s capitol, and place meaning behind the preamble. WE had the opportunity to advocate for agriculture, turning our privilege to serve into representation of the thousands of agricultural education students in the state of hawai‘i. WE had the opportunity to learn—on the nations 250th birthday, nonetheless—what it means to be american.
-
our nation is not defined by THE headlines. not by THE white marble monuments making marks on the national mall, not by THE military, THE people on wall street, or even THE political representatives who speak on our behalf in congress.
-
our nation is defined by its PEOPLE. from alaska to the virgin islands, and from the state of maine to hawai‘i, PEOPLE are what define america. america was founded with the belief that not the country, or its leaders, but its PEOPLE as a unified body could decide what was best for it. and today, as i look to our country and its leadership, the disconnect between it and its PEOPLE is something that scares me more than everything.
-
but being at summit, being surrounded by young, passionate leaders, has reminded me that a change will come if we will it. i love america more than anything. i criticize its leadership and i analyze its issues and i critique its history—but i do it because i care for the country i call home. i do it because i believe america can be better.
-
i do it because i believe in WE, THE PEOPLE. and i serve and i fight because i believe in our power to create change in the country we call home. WE THE PEOPLE are what define america.
-
WE. THE. PEOPLE.

Action without ideas is simply just entertainment.

One of my biggest takeaways from State Officer Summit was learning how to better advocate for the voices of the 1.1 million FFA member across the nation.

I am reminded that every day brings a new chance to share the story of agriculture. I’m thankful for the conversations, ideas, and the new friends who challenged me to think differently about advocacy. Here’s to another great year advocating for the industry that feeds, fuels, and clothes the world!!
