The exhibition at @museodenver is still on view until mid May !

Nuestras Historias is an exhibit and research project dedicated to reimagining whose stories, ideas, and artwork show up in professional museum exhibits. Directed by @kristinastamatis and curated by Andrea Garcia Vasquez, yours truly.

For the past two years, youth from across Denver worked with professional artists, community members, researchers, educators, and museum experts to develop this art exhibit. The exhibition features youth from Museo’s Lxs Jóvenes Leadership Lab and professional creatives in a powerful artistic conversation. The themes throughout this exhibition came from the teenagers themselves. How I curated the show was in collaboration with each of their stories, expressions, refusals, and wishes. It was such a beautiful experience for me as a child of immigrants to see young artists ideas come to life through art and creative expression.

Our research asks how youth can be invited to collaborate with elders to tell stories of their experiences and identities in public spaces.

this coming Thursday we will host an artist talk with the youth involved! Registration is free and sign up is on the Museo de las Americas website.

✨ Denver International Airport @denairport showcased Calaveras en Mi Ciudad, a mobile art exhibition that celebrates and pays tribute to Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead), a holiday and day of remembrance in Mexico.

🎨 The exhibition included artists Anthony Garcia Sr. @birdseedanthony, Armando Silva @artmandosilva, Juls Mendoza @juls_arte_, Karma Leigh @karmaleigh, Xencs L. Wing @xencs333, Charlo G. Walterbach @charlo.gw, Bimmer Torres @_youngbeam, Jennifer Gomez @jengomezart, and Spaik @spaik45, all who hand-painted the calaveras. The original papier-mâché mold of the calaveras was created by artist Ricardo Soltero @ricardosoltero. Each calavera is a personal statement that is unique to its creator, and each one reminds us that our spirits continue after death.

Hi All! I wanted to reshare the talent of @karmaleigh who illustrated our booklet as well as the cover. I don’t think people realize what a large scale piece the original cover artwork is! Scroll through for scale.

I often only share readings here so I thought this would be nice for new followers. 🙏🏽🪶❤️

Been meaning to post about the @denverdjschool Block Party…What better day than today, Hip-hip’s bday!? Thanks to the DJ School, @djchonz @karmaleigh and the whole crew for an incredible event. The Sun (Eye-Q)went to pretty much every workshop and left with so many gems from people like @djlrg303 @dj_a_l_ @deejaystyles @ogsuavecito @imdjmars and others. Got to connect with @djmaseo and he told The Sun to keep being creative. Got to see old and new homies, homegirls and share my creations at my pop up booth. Watched @dj_millierock get down and her Mama held me down at the booth 🙏🏽. So many to mention, so many old and new memories 😭🙏🏽Amazing mural reveal by @fienz1 and @pheud1 ! So many others made this possible. It’s a wild feeling to be around the people who had a big impact on my hip hop journey and watch them have a big impact on the community and The Sun, too. Ended the weekend at Matchbox and saw homies and Maseo get down 🙌🏽. I feel grateful and blessed to have had the journey with the culture that I’ve had and to continue being inspired by it, which is wild all these years later because “we never thought hip hop would take it this far!” It ain’t going nowhere! Love love love 🙏🏽#doallthingswithlove❤️ #feelinggrateful #thesuneyeQ #denverdjschool

8th grade Prom and Continuation 🙏🏽 Lake Knights, the best middle school for The Sun. We watched him grow physically, mentally and artistically. Thank you everyone at Lake, family, community, our village and friends for lifting The Sun through some hard years. That’s because of all the amazing people that surround us. I’m writing this in my feelings, the night before he transitions into High School tomorrow. Feeling confident that he’s gonna do great things in High School because of our village. Special shoutout to @iccauhtzin @aperalta0414 for helping The Sun (Eye-Q) shine for Prom and continuation with styling and hand making custom Zoot suit pants for him. So nice, he wore the outfit twice! She really helped him express himself and I’ve never seen him so confident. What a way to go out! These moments are priceless 😭💕. Love love love

Had an amazing time vending at the very first North Denver Block Party hosted by the Denver DJ School @denverdjschool featuring none other than DJ Maseo @djmaseo of De La Soul @wearedelasoul!

It was a fun experience sharing my art with the North Denver community. Big love to all the young, talented DJs who threw down some serious sets, and to everyone who came out to support, vibe, and show love. Connecting with a Hip Hop legend like DJ Maseo made the day even more special! 🙌🏽

Huge thanks to @richardlophotography for capturing these dope shots!
