That was two years ago. Here are some long overdue pictures and a caption I wrote a couple of months afterwards (the end is in the comments).

"It's been months now and it feels like the most realistic dream I ever had.

Up, down, left, right and so on... definitely not the quickest way to Canada, but - believe me - the detour was so worth it. It is hard to put into words the huge flow of mixed emotions I've felt the week before and the one after reaching the terminus.

During the trail, I was thinking back a lot about my preparation time. Watching youtube videos, spending hours comparing gear, stressing over admin stuff and doing spreadsheets over months. Now I am just amazed about how a 2D map and what were just random names of places have taken a whole new dimension and became memories I'm scared to forget. Every place was a first time (except for Portland where I've ended up staying three times haha) and getting there was always beyond exciting. It's also crazy how I thought at first that I would hike this thing with the upmost independance and how I ended up meeting people that were as hungry for life as I am and gave me so much joy.

I miss the trail. I miss its simplicity, the carefreeness I was feeling and the breathtaking views I was also always discovering for the first time. But what I've been missing the most since are actually my trail buddies and the people that marked my adventure. The one who said 'it's all about the people' was definitely right. Seeing the backs of the Fairies for the last time, whether it was at the airport or in town, has been heart shredding - especially after the apotheosis that were the crazy days we've spent together in Seattle.

I though I was prepared, but coming back has been way harder that I thought it would be. Everything was reminding me of past memories. The lack of purpose as well as the lack of adventures and discoveries was not helping me focussing on looking forward. It came also with lots of thinking about who I was as a person, when there was no mask left to hide behind. I was looking back at my raw self, with my good and bad sides, regretting my mistakes and smiling at the thoughts of the cool memories.

there were genuinely so many blueberries here we actually just could not help ourselves and interrupted what was probably like a 25-mile day to see if we could fill an entire 1L bottle with blueberries which was so insanely worth it and definitely one of my fondest ever memories

there's a survey that goes round every year—the halfway anywhere survey of pacific crest trail hikers—and one of the survey questions is "what was your favourite section of the trail?"

one of the most consistent answers, year after year after year, is goat rocks wilderness. and though i suspect that is primarily due to the ridiculous knife's edge that is the section's crown jewel, it would be remiss to not also appreciate the spectacular views that lead up to the ridge. it is the first time on the washington pct where northbound hikers finally, consistently make it above tree line, climbing out of the endless woods to get a true taste of what the state has on offer.

we ducked beneath a frigid waterfall just before gaining the knife's edge and to this day it's one of my favourite pct memories ❤️

@amjad._family *finally* had surgery. His infection was treated and shrapnel was removed from his other leg. He was discharged yesterday — without pain medication, because he cannot afford it. He is in a lot of pain. Thank you to those who show up over and over 🫀 Even $1 helps.

I am Amjad, 20 years old, from Gaza. I lost my feet as a result of a serious injury while trying to make a living for my family. My injury was not the end of suffering, but it was the beginning of greater pain. After amputation, a new suffering began, as bacteria spread inside the bone in my amputated foot, and the pain accompanied me at every moment of unbearable pain and long sleepless nights, and a constant fear that my health condition will deteriorate worse day by day, and inflammation threatens what is left of me in the absence of sufficient medical capabilities for my treatment. Here. The doctors confirmed that I urgently need to travel abroad to receive treatment before it is too late. I do not ask for much, just an opportunity for treatment, an opportunity to live a decent life, and be a support for my family again instead of being a burden to them. I appeal to everyone who has the capacity to help and every humanitarian actor to stand by me in this ordeal. My life today is hanging with hope and hope for you. Help me before I lose what is left of me. Help me to hold on to life again 🙏🙏💔

two days ago we found out that our beloved little sister Majd, has what could be small pox. She has blisters on her skin, a high fever, and isn’t eating. the Palestinian health ministry published a report on Friday that G4za “faces looming epidemic risk as rodent spread worsens amid environmental collapse”. Urgent funds for Majd’s recovery can be sent to @kat_erbeld on venmo or paypal.

*Update: goal met!*

I'm turning 36 on Friday! For my birthday I want to send 360 to a friend who needs it. In the spirit of getting things out of my brain and onto paper weirdly and imperfectly, this week I will make 36 doodles, one for each year of my wee life. Every 10 dollars donated will unlock a doodle :) Venmo @wynncredible and comment any number 1-36 :) Everything goes to him.
