Two weeks ago I had the absolute HONOUR of hosting for the very FIRST time and performing in the 2Spirit Caberet held by @nativeearthperformingarts at @buddiesto 🪶

What a freaking surreal night 😍 Nanaskamowin (i am thankful) for everyone who showed up to support, to help set up backstage and all the YUMMY food 🤤

And what a blessing it is to be able to celebrate Indigenous Queer/Two-Spirit art alongside some really powerful humans 🥹 Two-Spirit medicine is soooo important and sacred af.

DEFINITELY won’t be the last time I get my gay hands on hosting 🤭

I love this life and all the crazy adventures it takes me on 🥰

We are excited to announce - Ohontsà:ke nitioné:non onkwakara’shón:’a - Our Stories from the Land, an exhibit reflecting on the stories of what is now YKF from an Onkwehon:wé (Original Peoples) contemporary lens.

This exhibit brings together Indigenous artists to reflect on their relationships with the land through seasons, ceremonies, and stories.

While it is important to know our shared history and truths; it is vital to understand the contemporary reality for those Indigenous peoples living on and around this land today.

Curated by Janis Kahentóktha Bomberry as a continuation of Dibaajimowin by Emma Rain Smith (Bkejwanong/Walpole Island), this exhibit reminds us: true understanding begins when we listen to the stories the land holds.

Featured artists include Elizabeth Doxtater, Lorrie Gallant, Sara General-Deer, Karennotakies Barnes, Kate Dalton and storytellers Phil Monture and Clarence Cachagee.

📍 YKF Departure Lounge
✈️ Passengers only —boarding pass required!

(@rwmuseumarchive partnered with #YKF to create this exhibit, funded by the Province of Ontario, Regional Tourism Office 4 and @RegionofWaterloo)

We here at Native Earth want to honour Weesageechak Begins to Dance with Weesageechak Wednesday! To celebrate all those who have created and supported Indigenous creativity 🩵

Weesageechak Begins to Dance is our development festival where we bring together almost 100 local, national and international Indigenous artists. It has been the root of many works that have now been seen across the country and the world. In these last few years, we have seen the enormous impact of the work we do at the festival. The need to continue supporting artists to create work remains constant. Help us make that difference 🩵

I SEE YOU #6 Gardening My Life by Jainesh Raj Bali is OUT! (LINK IN BIO)

Here’s the final edition of I SEE YOU! Raj, great chef, entrepreneur and food business owner, is my very first employer in Canada. I used to work under him and make dips, soup, puffs, all kinds of stuff. We bonded over our time in the kitchen often with our favorite music in the background—our never-ending chit-chat would span from our queerness to hilarious TV shows to deep meditational thoughts rooted in our respective cultures. He always made sure to feed and include everyone working there, so it literally felt like a family (I actually met my soul brothers there. I see you Yash and Alex!) Even after I left the job, we have organized many gatherings together, always with delicious food at the center🍲

The text he wrote for this project explains his deep philosophy behind his attitude towards others. He encourages us to see human relationships as flowers and plants, which could be nurtured or damaged depending on how we tend to them. What’s written here is truly eye-opening and I began looking at my relationships under the new light. Honestly, I have seen his ups-and-downs and he also has seen mine for the past few years, so his patience and resiliency shown in this text really touched and motivated me. Raj, my big queer brother, thanks for seeing me and letting me see you🙏

Hope you’ll enjoy reading his piece! Link in bio!
