Welcome to the December 2025/January 2026 issue of Barista Magazine, featuring the recently crowned World Barista Champion Jack Simpson of Axil Coffee Roasters in Melbourne, Australia, on the cover! 🇦🇺 Writer Isabelle Mani penned a fascinating story about Jack’s long, storied history in specialty coffee in this issue.

And you MUST see our 2025 Holiday Gift Guide, featuring coffees and tools for all your favorite coffee friends. We’re so happy with how this initial feature turned out and the incredible roasters we were able to feature!

We also debut a new column called “Hacks,” which features tricks of the trade from industry pros about how to run a cafe efficiently and successfully. This installment focuses on systems to help you and your staff cruise through the rush crunch.

We also have a beautiful interview with Martell Mason of the Sepia Coffee Project in Detroit. And don’t miss a big feature about energy drinks and their potential in the specialty-cafe space.

And there is so much more! You can read tissue FOR FREE via the link in our profile. You can also order single issues or subscriptions through our web store, because there’s just nothing that compares to the feel of a real print magazine in your hands.

At 7 years sober today I can reflect only on one thing:

The world will take away people and pets that I cherish.

But, to stray from sobriety in the wake of devastating loss would be giving up on everything that matters to me.

We have had an unbelievably challenging 6 months that has pulled no punches.

Sobriety did not prepare me for experiencing highs and lows with no filter.

But I will stay the course.

It's not just the right choice but the only choice for me.

What people see and experience when they walk into the Cutlass Velo Studio is what I've been able to foster and see flourish by making this daily decision.

There will always be loss, and thankfully, there will always be the course and the amazing places it is taking me.

Welcome to the June + July 2025 issue of Barista Magazine!

We’re thrilled to feature Spain’s Dara Santana on the cover of this special issue. Dara is a chemical engineer specializing in merging the senses with the science of coffee. Specifically, her work has had an enormous impact on water quality development for coffee. It’s why she’s known in specialty coffee circles as the Water Wizard.

Here are some of the other awesome features in this brand-new issue:

• Check out the poster we created for you that charts everything you need to know to stay on top of preventative maintenance for your café equipment!

• We all know plant milks taste differently than dairy, but how do they vary in performance when prepared for espresso drinks? We dive deep into this subject in the article, “From Oat to Art.”

• Is the C Market more scary than it’s ever been? Not necessarily. “Thrills & Chills: Riding the Supply, Demands, and Disruptions of Today’s C Market” was put together with café owners in mind.

• Hey, it’s Jenna G! We’re stoked to feature longtime educator, competitor, barista advocate, and WNBA superfan Jenna Gotthelf in this issue’s “One on One.”

And there’s so much more! Matthew Campbell answers equipment questions in “Tech Talk”! Laila Ghambari talks pop-ups! We get into the nitty gritty of the controversy surrounding infused and co-fermented coffees. We visit the vibrant café scene in Aarhus, Denmark. We learn about Little Waves Coffee’s extraordinary Curious project, and much, much more!

Welcome to the 20th Anniversary Issue of Barista Magazine! It feels so strange to write those words!

This very special issue features Wendelien van Bunnik on the cover, past World AeroPress Champion, Dutch Barista Champ, and empathetic emcee of World Coffee Championships, but also the founder of the Happy Coffee Network, which exists to lift coffee people up, open doors to education, and strengthen our industry from within so it can be stronger tomorrow.

This issue also includes a Field Report about the electric cafe culture of Jakarta, Indonesia, in time for the World of Coffee show in Jakarta in May!

We asked our Cashbox business columnist, Tracy Allen, to pen a story on the tariffs plaguing the coffee industry and how to safeguard ourselves moving forward.

Laila Ghambari’s The Knockbox is a continuation of her discussion on how proper cafe layout and design can help cafe owners achieve efficiency and profitability, not to mention a happier staff.

Always wondered what it takes to be a truly great café manager? Ty Harrell tackles this topic in the article, Leader of the Pack.

And there’s so much more! A Field Report about Cologne, Germany; an feature about how the Puerto Rican coffee industry is standing up against calamities caused by global warming and changing cultural ideals; a Tech Talk column by none other than Marty Roe; an in-depth interview with Roukiat Delrue, who has dedicated her coffee career to furthering coffee competitions while expanding education; and much, much, more!

Thank you for reading and supporting Barista Magazine for these 20 years, friends. It has been our incredible honor to serve you these past two decades.
